The reason why I asked the question is because we have this RSM who hates stable belts he would prefer us to wear the green plastic belt instead. but our last RSM was all infavour of stable belts. The policy was stable belts inside TAC for tuesday nights and green belt on weekend exercises. Now its green belt all the time.

It'll teach you to nick dress items off other corps :D

They were original girth straps for saddles by wearing as a belt you could carry a spare and hold your pants up. Not sure what you did about your pants if you used it :o

I like my stable belt, looks very cool. Apparently, the reason many units have their buckle off to the side is so they didn't irritate their horses when htey groomed them. Furthermore, tell your RSM he is a twatism, and give him a boot up his arse. (i just wanna see what happens).
Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

I was required to wear a stable belt when with 59 Cdo. The whole squadron wore them and I had to join in. Trouble was I was a matelot, and Id never seen jack wear one or if the navy even had them.
Luckily a storeman at Stonehouse came up trumps and found one, supposedly the Gunnery Instructors wear them, as do the field gun crews.
Smart as chips I was, especially when duty medic down at HMS Drake in half lovets. The Navy lads didnt know what to make of it, a matelot in Bootneck kit, and walking around with pongos!
