Painting straight lines on canal boats

Post by Artist »

Have been painting this here canal boat.

Owner asked me "do you use Plum lines?" Asked him just what he was talking about.

"Well when you want a straight line you use a plum line and some chalk inpregnated string, do you not?" was his reply. :o :o (I blame it on these programmes that the BBC and the Satelite channels keep pushing out, cost nought and give fools a rough working idea about painting and decorating, On dry land!)

Pointed out that as the bloody Boat was floating on the Oggin it would be a Tad pointless! O dear me, never mind, such is life. I use feet and inches, 20/10/8/9/13/21 inches up from the hull and one tick is made etc, etc, until the layout of the design is sussed. You have to love Hoo Rays don't yer? (Iffen they ever work it out then I'm out of work!) :D

Are you sure you never had a canal boat?

It's curved that way cos it saves dosh I once said to a total PRONG with the grasp of an out of work Chit Chat who was scared of heights!

New Putor Programme is ACE! Negative Hand Painting the boats name now. Is all done on a Putor. Taken to the boat and done. Saves about two days work. A good comparison is the old Airfix plastic kits transfers. Saves time but I still charge them the same. Roses and Castles are still done by hand mind.

Closest I ever came to owning a canal boat was this little beauty up in Shetland. She was 17.5 feet, double prowed, and had a short shaft 1.5 seagull or two old oars for propulsion. I spent many unhappy hours stripping the old paint and repainting her, then many happy hours out fishing with the dog. (No, Nurse never went in it  )

PS Notice the new stereo aerial strapped to the garage! I flew back from Aberdeen with it, fixed it to the garage, and then the stereo. Puzzled at the lack of FM signal on the box, I was adjusting it when the local builder stopped and told me that the BBC did not have stereo on the Shetlands..............yet!

I believe they used to hang around the Red Square in Limassol, trying to lure young squaddies into their nasty ways.

Oh, "oars!"

Sorry!

Call me a Silly Billy but I reckon that the Honourable Moderator from Truro has a spanking new bit O kit for his Putor.

Please do not get me wrong, am really enjoying the result. I knew/know some of the persons he has inputted on the Phots!

F3 made my day. My old LCM. Once spent three weeks on that tub sleeping, eating and indeed working in and around the Nowegian Fyords. Great days that will stay with me until I die.
