ta moving to marines

Post by roll_on »

my goal is to join the marines (RMR) ,as a young pup i was in the cadets and have always loved the challenges involved in the military way of life, what im wondering is ,would it be advisable to join the TA just to gain soldeiring experience whilst waiting to start training for the rmr ,or would the paper work be herrendous??the rmr closest to me are not gonna be back for a couple of months or so so i gotta wait.

depends on when exactly you want to join the RMR.. if you got a bit of a wait, like a year or so. Then i'd definately recommend joining the TA first, because you can get a fair bit of military experience.. Also for joining the Marines you'll really need to be very fit, and joining the TA will help you build up and maintain your fitness.

Just get in there and do it. Get fit and go for selection for RMR later in the year. There's not much point in becoming a pongo when you know what you really want!

I think it's a bit rude to join the TA as a 'stop gap'. The TA might be insulted that u saw them that way, then just went off to the marines. The TA is a seroius mob, they are just as much a professional fighting force as the marines.

TA will expect you to go through their training and training course.

They won't like falking out money if your not going to stay.

The time it takes to get a discharge from the TA could hold up joining the RMR (diffrent armed service's).

You may also be liable to call up by the TA while doing your basic training with the RMR (depend's how far you get in training with the TA). Happened with one lad during GWII.

Why join the TA? well for a start, you are going to be taught DRILL!, thats ARMY DRILL!, lots of stamping of feet, Drill Instructors shouting the odds, but look at it this way, the Royal Marines Don`t do stamping of feet, so all the shyte you`ve learnt at the TA, will all go for a ball of chalk. The way the Royal Marines trains its men, full time or part time is completely different to that of the pongo`s, and far superior, so is it realy in your interests to join, learn all that stuff that is going to be completely useless to you IF, you do decide to join the Corps in one way or the other? Methinks before posting on any topics, you should sit down for 5 minutes and just run it through your own mind.

bootneck,to be honest with you ,i dont know that much about the military way of things,i didnt know that the marines didnt do drill, and what i was trying to do was ask for advice whether or not it was a good idea as i dont know,so dont think i aint been sittin down and not thinkin,i was just wantin to know if i would learn anythin valuable, but going on what people are saying ,it wouldnt be a good idea, and im fine with that, just curious .

roll-on, the point i was trying to make was, the pongo`s do things their way, and Royal does things his. with regards to the Drill, the Royal Marines do do drill, but not the stamping shyte perce does, at the end of the day, your bloody feet would be hanging off. the Drill Royal does is completely different. If they stamped their feet in the days of Nelson, etc, they would more than likely put their feet through the deck. If you did join the TA, and then Royal afterwards, you would more than likely get singled out because you were doing the drills wrong( weapons drill or any other drills) and as the TA had brain washed you into doing their drill first, i would imagine trying to adapt would be a lot harder than learning from scratch. The choice is yours though. :drinking:

Bootneck, just out of interest, how does Royal teach the troops that is so superior to the pongo way?

Bootneck, I got advised to join the TA by the royal at the AFCO, they thought it'd be a good stepping stone. :D

All the lad's I've talked to in the recruit office of my TAC are either ex army or wanting to join the Royal so I don't think they get too upset about using the TA as a "stepping stone" as long as you do your bit for then and don't go as soon as training's over, or heaven forbid in the middle of it. I hope to do the training and get at least one tour somewhere before I try for the Marines, after that I'll probably go back to the TA or RMR, if all goes to plan, but what ever does?

Sticky, this is a bit ignorant if you don't mind my saying so. Artist has had a rant about how upset he is about bumbarse posts, then you put this. All i asked was a simple question, and i'd like a simple answer plz. no dramas :D
