You don't have to go mad learning every tonnage and length just the main parts:
1.Types of ship and role, weapon systems. Don't bother with the RFA. don't ignore the minor warfare vessels i.e. Minehunters, patrol ships
2.Main frontline aircraft and role.
3.The main arms of the RN i.e. Aircraft carriers + FAA, Submarines- SSN and Nuclear deterrent (SSBNs), Surface fleet escorts, Amphibious forces.
4. N.B, learn vague tonnages and complements!!!!
What you need to know depends on your branch too i.e. if you want to be in the RM they want a good level of detail on the corps, weapons etc. if you are joining aircrew they give you questions related to aircraft specifically.
I'm basing this info on my AIB pass so i don't know what the levels are for rating entry.
