Just Because I'm Paranoid, It Doesn't Mean They're Not Out To Get Me.
well said lads, my flag is flying with pride outside, and the white ensign is in the back of the car, and lets not forget, this day in 1918, the Raid on Zeebrugge, where two VC`s were awarded to
Ahoy there!
Here, here!
Celebrate your Englishness.
I walked to work this morning wearing my rose and flying my little flag. Apart from a few supportive comments from passing taxi drivers I didn't see another display of patriotism.
According to the ceefax this morning, St George wasn't English. He was a Palestinien or Turk who was hung in one or the other countries in the 6th century.
Political correctness dictates that an English saint would have been an empire building racist bigot with an unacceptable disposition to dragons, which would no doubt infuriate the minority Welsh (a non visible ethnic minority).
But would he have taken bribes from the Kalif of Baghdad ?
Every day in every way, I'm getting better and better
Everything about St George is dubious, so the information below should be taken as mythical rather than real.
Born in Turkey (in Cappadocia)
Lived in 3rd century CE
His parents were Christian
Later lived in Palestine
Became a Roman soldier
Protested against Rome's persecution of Christians
Imprisoned and tortured, but stayed true to his faith
Beheaded at Lydda in Palestine
23rd April was named as St George's day in 1222 Patron Saint
He is patron saint not only of England but also of Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany and Greece; and of Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa and Venice (second to St Mark). He’s also patron saint of soldiers, archers, cavalry and chivalry, farmers and field workers, riders and saddlers, and he helps those suffering from leprosy, plague and syphilis.
Well, your saint gets around doesn't he? Arn't I lucky that St. Andrew is patron to only Scotland eh? Well he is the patron of Russia, but we don't count that miserable little country.
There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count & those who can't.
An interesting question would be If not George who was a foreigner then which Englishman would you have as our Patron Saint, Thomas Cranwel for example. see you all on parade on friday
Allan
PS Harry I want a funny picture with my entries (no laughing now )

Right time to go with the 'old man' to get drunk.........oh joy nothing like drinking 5 pints and having to carry him home
Look you bunch of amatuers, St. Patrick was Welsh. He was born in AD385 and his name was Maewyn. And on 17th March he died at the age of 76, having spent his life in jail, escaping and setting up schools and churches and transforming Ireland to Christianity, later he was made a Saint.
