Weightloss.
I been trying to lose weight (im 6'1-big built and bout 16st.) Ive been doing cardiovascualr work and weights. However im finding it hard to lose any weight at all. Should i not do the weights or do you lot have any ideas ta!
Bloody Arse!
Weight loss doesn't happen quickly, unfortunately there are no secret pills or superdiets, just you!
I used to be in the same position as you mate. I'm 6ft 3" and now just under 15 stones at the moment. Last september i was 16 st. I've done pretty well. I would say not eating chocolate everyday or anything stupidly sugary helped. Thing is with weight loss, there isn't much advice apart from eat less and exercise more. Do the most ideal exercises for fat burning, mainly running! After a while the major confidence boost was hearing matesw who i hadn't seen for months comment on how much i'd lost. It was a BIG confidence boost.
Don't get too caught up in it! Don't weight yourself everyday, its not worth getting worked up about. I found it easier to loose when i admitted to myself i was a fat bastard, i ate chocolate everyday and somthing had to be done about it. At the gym today i saw one "Obese" girl run on the treadmill for about 2 minutes, she got off and got on the scales! What was she expecting to find out? There would be no difference. See, thats how caught up people get in weightloss.

Lovely. Glad to see its not just me then.Your right it is mostly willpower and eating right things in the right proportions. The way i see it:
If you eat 200 calories, if you burn 200 calories, then anything after that would be stuff thats already been taken into your body. I cut down my work hours so i can go to the gym nearly every day- not to run myself silly, but to gradually increase my stamina/endurance, and also helping with the weight loss. I havent had an beers for a few months-i been stuck on water/lucozade, so i feel better inside, even if i dont notice any difference outside. Neway, ta for your help and ill see how it goes!

Keep up the good work freestyler!! With weights, i'm pretty sure heavy reps is the best when you're on a diet, that way you'll still be exercising your upper body and will not loose any muscle weight hopefully. If you don't do any weights you'll will most likely loose some muscle along with the fat which you don't want.........Also, if you're new to exercising, and in particular to weight training, you will more than likely put on some muscle (i.e. weight), during the start of your diet, so during the first few weeks your actual weight might not be changing much because you will be loosing fat, but instead putting on abit of muscle too.
If you've already been into weight training alot, you will not put on any muscle weight during dieting and the heavy reps will keep your strength pretty much balanced.

remember that for a cardio to be effective in burning fat you should be aiming to hit your heart rate between 120-140 beets per minute after about 30 mins fat only starts to burn after 20.. another good tip is not to eat any complex carbs after 5pm. as complex carbs like pasta, rice, bread, etc take 6 hours to be turned ready for use after 6 hours.. this means that they will only be ready when your asleep so they will be stored as fat. hope this will help
Listen in men give 100% or i will thrash you till your eyes bleed!

That's true, but if you're really trying to burn fat, and you're already pretty fit, sprint/interval type training is the way to do it. The method above will burn more fat in the exercise session, but the sprint/interval training (shorter training time, alot more intense) will burn exactly the same, and maybe more calories, but it will also raise your metabolism to insane levels for hours after you do such a routine, burning even more calories. I can post studies if ya need.remember that for a cardio to be effective in burning fat you should be aiming to hit your heart rate between 120-140 beets per minute after about 30 mins fat only starts to burn after 20
I used to do a sprint routine called the Tabata Protocol, essentially 5-10mins going to your max. I would set up shuttle runs and sprint all out for 20 seconds, then I would rest for 10 seconds and repeat until exhaustion (should take anywhere between 5-15 goes). If you do it right and can motivate yourself for the 5-10mins it takes it yields enormous enormous results, but should only be done once a week to start off. Normal interval training recommends you go all out for a certain period of time then rest for an amount of time equal or greater than the exercises time i.e. sprint 20 seconds / rest 20+ seconds. Tabata Protocol says you should only rest half of the exercise time,....and trust me it's hard and I stress you should be already fit if you decide to try it, also don't eat your breakfast before ya do it!!

Re: Weightloss
The easiest way is to eat a healthy balanced diet. Eating five small meals a day means that your body won't store as much of the carbohydrates, which are convereted into fat if not burned off. DO NOT SNACK BETWEEN MEALS (Unless its fruit)
Regular exercise is also the key. You need to run for at least 45mins - an hour at a time to see any results. Rather than just running as fast as you can for 20 mins. set a time and whatever you do don't stop, even if you have to reduce the speed to walking pace for a minute or two.
I was 5'9 and 13stone 1lb at my medical 3 weeks before my POC. I leave for it tomorrow and im now at 12st 3lb. I think you'll fine thats evidence that it works.
Good Luck mate and let me know how it goes!
