An error only becomes a failure when you fail to learn from that error...adapt and overcome
Welcome to the site. re your queries on POC, have a scan through the joining RM forum, and use the search facility at the top left of the screen for specific queries. Any unanswerable questions place a post and await the rush.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Like you Maverick00 I am looking for a career change, but I work in IT. I have been interested in the Royal Marines, but I am thinking maybe I should join the army. Because my fitness is not exactly great, so joining a regular regiment for a few years and if I get the chance to join the Royal Marines I would jump at the chance. That's if I want to join and if they even except me in the first place.
Can any one tell does this sound like a good way to prepare to join he Royal Marines by joining the army getting a few years experience and the joining the Royal Marines ??

If you join the RM then you join the RM... if you join the army they will not want you to leave after they have invested a lot of time and money in training you. You can't transfer to the RM from the army like you transfer from regiment to regiment in the army. You will have to leave and rejoin the forces, along with that comes a lot of paperwork (pension, former service, former entitlements etc) that can be lost.
Putting it simply, go for one or the other.

you could try this

then at least you could get a trade as well which will come in handy when you leave

So would it be difficult to change from the army to the Royal Marines? I had always been lead to believe that joining the army was a good start if you eventually want to join says the Royal Marines Or S.A.S. I say this because my mate has just joined the army, and he said he would like to join the Royal Marines but he said that joining the army first was one of the ways to go about it. But by the sounds of what you guys tell me that I have got it wrong.
So at the end of the day it’s best to choose one or the other and put all my efforts into that one?? :turn-l:

You join the Royal Marines as a direct entry. It is possible to work alongside the Corps if you become Commando qualified, as an Army rank, but you are still only 'attached', but appreciated none the less. Army ranks from the RLC do the All Arms Commando Course, a very abbreviated course of military skills and physical endurance tests to qualify you for the Green Beret.

Disclaimer:- The following is said with no prejudice and no insult intended...
Surely when you join RM you are in fact a branch of RN? Asking to transfer from the Army to RM would surely be like wanting to transfer from one company to another? Impossible! Like saying I work in the Co-op, can I have a transfer to Marks and Sparks?
Or am I completely wrong?

Why? Because I can!
Jules.... Firstly, could you PLEASE change your Avatar! You obviously don't have any idea what it does to an addled brain at four o'clock in the morning.........!!!... :kissing2:
Now Incommmmmmmming Royal..... is not a branch of the Navy or the Army for that matter.... He is a rather special Chappie, who when on board comes under the Naval Discipline Act and when ashore he comes under the similar Army act, while all the time being vitualled and paid by the Navy.
He does not take kindly to being considered as part of either branch of the armed services..... But, as an entity on his own, unique, a one off, in the singular........................................?

Jules don't you ever consider the Royal Marines as anything like the Army. The Royal Navy is actually a part of the Corps, is victualled and supplied with humour by the Corps, we also maintain their domestic bliss by keeping Officers and ratings apart.
Now please go back to your girly mags, fluffy things and knit one purl one!
PS, Dark Oak is meant for your boots, not your hair!
