Hi,
I'm re-taking my aptitude test on 9th June and I have two very different trades in mind, I managed to get one of the info letters on my first choice (student staff nurse) but I didnt get any on my 2nd (supplier) I was just wondering If anyone could give me any more info on this trade, as the RAF website is a little vague.
Thanx Sarah x :fadein:

My mate is a supplier. As a job goes its fairly mundane and opportunities outside the RAF are limited unless you want to be a warehouse manager. RAF nurses get promotionm quick initially and earn far in excess what NHS nurses do. Go for the Nurses job, there are some good stable postings and the chance of good employment on leaving the service.
Thanx, see I think i would like a trade that is more, military, if you kno what i mean because I could just be a nurse for the NHS but it's the military life style I'm after ya see.
Do you kno what i mean?
Unless bein a nurse in the RAF has more of a military background than a civvy nurse?

Supplier and Student Staff Nurse
I'd say that the trade of Supplier can be enormously varied. Typically, you spend your first couple of years rotating through the various supply flights on a Station (Domestic Supply Flight, Base Supply Flight, Petrols-Oils & Lubricants etc). Having gained sufficient experience in the broad spectrum of 'domestic' duties, you'd be looking to sit your Trade Ability Tests and get promoted to Senior Aircraftsman/woman. At this point, you might specialise within a specific area or get posted onto the Tactical Supply Wing (where you will spend a LOT of time abroad and in the 'field'). Further down the line and with greater experience you can further specialise in stuff like Fuels and Explosives (great stuff for when you leave the Service!).
Student Staff Nurse is, perhaps, the best deal going! You join the RAF, pass through RTS and then go away and complete your Nurses training at Selly Oak in Birmingham (with training spells at various Defence Hopitals like Peterborough or Akrotiri in Cyprus). It is exactly the same training as NHS nurses recieve - except that you are getting PAID a full RAF salary!!! (far better than the approx £6k pa you get to do it in the NHS).
After training, you can be employed in a Defence Hospital, at a Station Medical Centre or even work on an Aeromedical Evacuation Team.

Thanx Biggles,
I'm torn now as I'm not sure which I'd prefer. I've been along to my nearest AFCO and picked up some more info on Suppliers I haven't read through it yet but I'm sure it'll be more in depth than the RAF website is lol
I suppose I could put both of them down on my application and if I don't score high enough for one I'll be happy with the other.
Could I just ask one more thing, I sat my aptitude test in Dec and I'm planning to re-sit it in June, now I'm not sure but I think the corporal who I spoke to that day (who broke the news that I'd failed lol) mentioned something about my first lot of scores going towards the scores I'll recieve in June. Is this true?
