Political Correctness.

What can we do about this in the UK? We have (so called) freedom of speech in here yet there are certain things that we cannot discuss or is frowned upon in some quarters.

If I want to talk about Guy Gibson's dog in the Dambusters film, I have to avoid the name Nigger as it is likely to offend, you are supposed to say the dog with the dark chocolate coloured coat. Gollywog has been dropped from the jars of Robertsons jam and marmalade. Children are not being permitted to be filmed for TV incase paedophiles see some 'bent persuasion' in viewing films. The British Red Cross shops are not selling anything with a cross or depicting Jesus on an item in case it offends other religions.

What can we do about it and what have you heard from your local council that is PC, I mean I am a white honky tonk, tall as opposed to short, slim as opposed to fat, reasonable intelligent and not thick, family man and not gay, so what are you?

Well i could talk for hours about this subject .
A bloke with a hook as a hand and a mongy eye who is on benifit can slag off our country and can not get touched. But if i want to call a fellow worker a lazy black ,pillow chewer, midget, invalid,i get into trouble.
WHERES MY FREE SPEACH GONE.
O,i know the problem,im the same as Spannerman,im a hardworking family man never broke the law and always done as i was told(within reason)Respected the law and society in general.
I do not know what the answer is ,but no one has got the b-lls to do anything in case they upset someone.
We have ourselves to blaim .
Its because we are the family man who has never broke the law and tows the line that nothing will change.

OSB

I have broken the law twice, both for motoring offences, not bad I suppose in 43 years as a motorist, paid my fines, so I'm square with the law, however, if I was a one eyed, one armed race hater, vertically challenged with a skin colour other than a whiter shade of pale, had no tax, no MoT, no Insurance and no driving licence I would probably get 5 Brownie points for being a good citizen.

We have talked about a similar thing on this viewtopic.php?t=5265&start=30

The P.C brigade needs backing up a bit.(i mean taking a step back)
Perhaps we can go down the human rights channel saying that the P.C. brigade are restricting our human rights.
You may laugh.
But if you cant beat them join them

The only problem with freedom of speech is everyone else has the freedom to tell you to shut up. That's the problem, no one can take a joke anymore without giving something back (usually a law suite)

I don't think we can get rid of it but I think it'll go away eventually, the country'll just get to boring. Anyone ever see that film "demolition man"? I can really see that happening in many places in todays world.

We can do what the French do about EU rules. Ignore them.

I'm waiting to write 'married' on the first gov't form I get the opportunity to, now they've banned the term! :x

But, usually, the answer to most of these sorts of problems lies with the children. I've started 'educating' my grandkids already.

So much to do and so little time............. :(

The thing I have to admire about Americans is an ability to get off their collective butts and register their disgust with their political masters, something we should all do more no matter how fruitless the end result is.

Here’s the Christmas Card from the UK’s Department of Culture I’d posted on another thread, it has nothing to do with Christmas and the message inside doesn’t mention Christmas either. The content of the card is obviously designed not to cause ‘offense’ to non-christian minorities, I doubt that the Hebrew, Islamic, Hindu or other religions will reciprocate when it’s their turn to celebrate a holiday.

So, if you want to do something start now and complain to Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, this card has been done in your name using your taxes.

Political correctness is the muzzle of free speech. Don't buy into it. Its all part of globalization, fight the power!
Let them call me a rebel and I welcome it, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of demons were I to make a whore of my soul. (Thomas Paine)

The problem is that the top positions, those with influence go to those with radical views.

For instance, we have a policeman who believes in anarchy.

So he is put in carge of riots.

We have judges appointed, who believe jail is bad, as it doesnt rehabilitate and call for shorter sentances.

We have an ex laywer who has made a career out of representing al quieda members put in charge of asylum appeals procedures.

We had a prison warden sacked for making a nasty joke about osama bin laden, because two asian women where in the prison and it was assumed they were offended by the "rascism". Of course if they had bothered to ask the women, they probably werent at all offended.

I could go on, the list is endless.

But with these people put in charge im afraid it will get worse. Christmas cards banned, hot cross buns banned in schools, flying the george cross banned, generally lots of things that highly paid interferers have decided are "offensive"

It’s no good saying it’s only going to get worse, it will get worse if you don’t complain. Tell the PC merchants where they can stick their social engineering schemes and feely touchy BS.

The flying the flag of St George on the patron saint of England’s day was banned by town councilors in Congleton, Cheshire. If they frown upon English traditions this much perhaps they should all sod-off to Afganistan, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan and reform those societies, tell them here.

Flyby and parade for the troops in Iraq? Tell Hoon to sort it out.

Here’s a good one, Chirac says the England WRC win is ‘good for Europe’, the short ar$e kermit needs to be put straight. England won not Europe, so what’s this France claiming victory after a defeat again? Typical French, tell them to eat cake.
