TA HCR - is it just 21 and 23 or all units?

Post by max »

I've been looking through old posts on the forums and I keep coming across HCR (Higher Combat Readiness?) in the posts about 21 and 23 SAS.

Is HCR status only applicable to those units or is there a similar status for other units and what does it entail in terms of extra training/commitment?

Also, I read somewhere that 4 Para encourage recruits to do a 3 or 6 month tour with the regulars. Again is this something that happens with other units and how much crossover is there generally between a TA unit and the regulars?

I dunno what your on about with the HCR etc, but i do know that everyone within the TA constantly has opertunities to go full time reserve and go on tours.

I've just joined the TA and i've yet to find out about the crossover's. Many TA members are ex-regulars. And many TA members i've met are going into regulars. I have yet to find out.

Higher Readiness Reserve (HRR)

These are individuals, serving either as members of the volunteer reserves or as individual reserves, who have taken additional liability for call out at any time. They have skills that are in short supply in both the regular and reserve forces. Typically these might be linguists, intelligence staff, media operations staff and specialist support staff.

To be an HRR, a reservist must sign an agreement to that affect and his civilian employer must agree in writing, to his doing so. An agreement, that may be followed by successive agreements, will be for one year. Whilst the agreement is in force the reservist may be called up to serve for up to nine months continuous service. As for other call-out powers, appeals against call-out by reservists or employers may be heard.

The HRR has largely fallen into abeyance as the terms and conditions of service proved to be unattractive. The MoD has largely been able to attract sufficient numbers of reservists to serve on mobilised service and Full Time Reserve Service (FTRS).
