Dutchman joining the SAS

Post by Bramage »

Hello,

I am thinking of joining the Dutch Green Berets when I am 22 years old. After my serve period of 4 years I would like to get into the British SAS.

Are there any people who know the tricks to get in as a foreigner? And know some good sites with lots of information on the SAS?

Thanks in advance,
Bramage

Is that possible? I thought you had to be from a comonwealth country to join the british forces?

The SAS dont have a official website. The only websites you'll find are done by so called "ex-SAS men" and little kids who watched "SAS are you tough enough?" and know it all. Beware of cheap immitations mate!

if you did want to go into the SAS i think you would have to serve for 3 years beforehand in the british forces to go into selection(?) I dont know much on the matter maybe chunky and the rest may know.

Ps dont the dutch have special forces?

Yes the Dutch do have special forces, the Green Berets aka 'Commandos'.
And some of them are lucky enough to get sent to the SAS and follow tha training course, but after that they return to the KCT and stay in the Netherlands, but they are legal to wear the SAS Beret.

But I would like to stay in the SAS 8) (after my eventually Green Beret period in the Netherlands for 4 years)

Got the same idea of joining the Royal Marines then going for SBS selection.

I'm a South-African citizen.

Keep your heart in it and maybe i'l catch yomping it on the brecons with me in a few years.

It's all worth the wait and agony.

Even if you can't join directly there's nothing stopping you from living over here for the minimum time and then joining a regular regt and going from there. But it would mean being a civvy for a few years in the UK. Try talking to the online carreers office on the army site

www.army.mod.uk

Good luck either way.

Try this website, it's created by a Dutchman and he might be able to answer your questions.

http://home.hccnet.nl/22.sas/

Hope this helps.

Sticky,
They don't always send the best on exchange programmes, let's face it, they sent me!! And what a brilliant two years I had. They send the most suitable person available!! And I recognise that fact, otherwise I would be the best guy in the *** and I can assure you I wasn't!!

Sticky,
You shouldn't make light of the exchange programme. It does do a lot of good. I know we do take the piss out of the Yanks but when you have lived with them for a couple of years you realise that they are just like the same as our guys!! The Seal Team are just as good as the SBS and Vice Versa

There ain't any Dutch Commandos who did the SAS selection and so have the right to wear the SAS beret. Yeah, there are guys who followed classes in the SAS (like E&E) but other stories than that are just b"%llsh@t.
