trainasium
does anyone know if there have been any accidents on the p-company trainasium. I`m thinking of trying out for the paras next year, but the trainasium or whatever its called has got me in a flap. If you are slip on this thing you would fall 15 metres with no nets; have people died or been seriosuly injured trying to complete this?
its not that far unless you keep falling of the edge, then your are unlucky!
mainly because you would have failed!
Falling = failing + pain
but the pain from failing will be more than falling.
If it was that bad they wouldnt let you on it.
Like ed said, dont fall.... your chances of passing are much greater then.
The idea of it is to make you flap and become nervous, then they see if you are determind enough to join.

Either lead, follow or get out of the way

I hate to put a downer on you but when I done P-coy two lads were carted of in meat wagons with broken limbs. One broke a leg and the other an arm! Us recruits at the time were barked at by the course Sgt Major to 'TURN your BACKS and look away from them... VICTIMS'
Needless to say the injuries werent due to falling from the 'confidence at height' part of the trainasium, but due to piss poor technique at the run and jump into the scramble net. Still quite high up but you get it wrong and the net has a nasty habit of bending things into directions they dont want to go! apart from that the trainasium was a piece of piss as long as you storm through it with confidence and show the staff you can do it on command without hesitation. Anyway granted the highest point is 40odd foot up but if you were to actually fall in fact it would be about 12-14ft because there is a platform just below the highest point....
its all mind games!!

i'm gonna be going for officer next year, and i'm wondering, being that i am scared daft of heights, i was just wondering if anybody else who has done it was ? hehe......and how you reacted at the time.
But, not once have I questioned my sanity in setting the ball rolling on joining up. Fear + Irrational behaviour are symptons of a weak mind, any1 wanting to be a para and gets that far shouldnt be weak minded, how can they be??? -fear is easily controlled by a focused mind.
Plus how can one better oneself if he does not know his problems from the start !... look on it as self improvment. hehe

trainasium - the facts
It’s now in Catterick, where P Coy is run.
It’s not too bad once you get your head round the idea that shuffling across to bars is in fact very simple.
If you do fall, its only 15 foot to platform, don't worry that that's another 35 ft up. But you won't fall on the shuffle its self. The bit that puts the wind up is when you have to step over the centre beam. The first time you lift your foot up, lift it over and place it down, you will sh*t yourself, but it’s only for a second until you realise how easy it is. The first time I did it I slipped and fell through the middle of the bars. I just climbed back up and did it again with no problems. I could honestly say that it would not hold any fear for me now having fallen off and no hurt myself. Thankfully I won't have to.
Other things to consider, but really are just mind games and are not a problem:
See Saw
Illusion jump, both of them
Other shuffle bars
Super man jump - a lot of fun!!
The biggest tip I can give is listen to the words of command 'stand by...go!'
then just act and trust yourself. When you get to the end you will want to do it again.

Came home from abroad and found my daughter [15] limping about , she said she had been running down a hill with the dog [Alsation] on the lead when they went round a tree ,her one side, the dog the other. You can imagine the result. 20 years later the story about the dog and the tree came up and every body started laughing. It was then I found out she had fallen off the tranasium in Aldershot. She had been one of the kids that used to reguarly get chased off for playing there at w/ends.

This sounds wussy, but Ive seen a video of the trainisium and it really puts me off. Not the parachuting or any of the physical stuff but the fuc*ing 6ft leap and the other parts of the trainisium.
Im fit and strong but not one for acrobatics (im being serious). Should I just carry on applying and block out the trainisium until I get to it then absolutley hard core it (whilst physically crapping myself stupid)??
Or just throw the towel in?
PS no more back braking stories- its not gonna keep the numbers up
