SAS the bench mark in fitness
I'm actually interested in what anyone conciders to be mentally and physically fit. I mean, as far as the selection process goes. I would really like to hear some oppinions on what ex members and potential candidates consider to be a benchmarks in physical and mental fitness prior to attempting selection.

Gully,
there are a number of books on the market in the 'How to pass SAS Selection' line, I'm sure these will give you an insight.
I haven't read them so I can not give much guidance.
It is impossible to give absolutes in terms of time and distance divided by weight carried. You have to be as fit as YOU posssibly can.

Physical fitness and mental toughness are closely related. You'll actually find that very fit people have developed through training a mentally tough attitude. These days it's all too easy to sit around on your arse smoke, drink and eat to excess, to actually get up and run 3 miles a day and eat well shows a certain level of mental toughness. A thing you have to realise is your body can put up with 20 times more than you personally think possible, and also that the pain is temperary and will go away. What I try to do is make the things I do a kind of obsession, and that seems to work for my training. But for mental toughness I'm just a hard b*stard and I know it.
