What should I bring to basic training?

Post by Jesse »

Hello everyone,

I start basic on September 1st and I was wondering what to bring.

The document I was sent says to bring 7 pairs of underwear but doesn't mention socks or undershirts.

Could someone who is doing basic training please tell me how much to pack.

How many pairs of socks should I bring?
How many pairs of pants do I need?
How many sweaters should I bring?
How many shirts should I bring?

You get the idea. Thanks.

excuse me mr. canadian, but this is a proper traditional english website and when you say 'pants', we think of underwear not trousers. please use our language correctly, thankyou.

Maybe that's what he meant in the first place? Maybe he wets the bed, you never know.

About proper traditional English...are sweaters and cardigans the same thing; or is a cardigan a type of sweater?

Ahoy there!
Apart from the various bits of kit, which are well documented, I always found that a large helping of:

I brought lots of socks / underware as you are constantly changing them due to Phys, sometimes up to three times a day. Make sure that they are dark colours and don't bring any whites as they will not stay white..

How many pairs of socks should I bring?
10 pairs

How many pairs of underpants do I need?
14 pairs

How many pairs of pants (trousers/jeans) do I need?

2 pairs trousers/2-3 pairs of jeans

How many sweaters should I bring?

3-4

How many shirts should I bring?

You will stand out like a sore thumb for the first two weeks of foundation as you wear shirt/tie each time you visit the Galley with your name badges. Bring at least 3 shirts with you.

I am in 855 Troop and will start week 11 in a few days. If you would like a chat or any advice then just drop into C Block, Rm 3 - Rct Davies.

Good Luck.
