No. We should adopt a low profile, and back out sharpish.
I only voted once when I was serving in the Corps, and that was NO to joining the EU, they didn't listen, and now look at the state of things!
There was some plonker called Valéry, (yes a bloke!), on the radio this morning, with a French/English accent you could cut with a knife, telling us how wonderful it all is in Euroland............................. for the French! Meanwhile the Germans are beginning to bitch like hell about 'this stupid common interest rate etc , how can they possibly be suitable for every economy?'
No, No, NO, NO NO .................................. That is a NO vote Tony.

In principle I support the Euro, but in the current situation joining now would be absolute suicide. International politics would render the political arguement useless, and the UK economy is so different to the EU generally the shock to the UK would be significant - and thanks to enlargement we'd feel the pain twice over. So in future, yes. But not right now thanks very much.

If I were still living in Britain I would be voting no. I am still slightly nervous as to the down effects that the adoption of the Euro would have to my pension. When we adopted the decimalization of our currency, the little guy at the bottom of the pile got ripped off. When we adopted the metric system the little guy got ripped off again.
Why don't you guys leave the EU and join up with Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Canada could really do with more markets outside of the US.
Aye - Andy.

Unfortunatly the geographical position of the uk makes trade in NAFTA impractible, its far more expensive to move goods to and from the US than say from dover to calais.Andy O'Pray wrote:If I were still living in Britain I would be voting no. Aye - Andy.
But, its pretty obvious to me, that being outside the euro (as we are) has not done us any harm at all
I'm thinking about giving it another 10 years, just to the point where I cannot take it anymore and try out Canada or New Zealand
Guy in my office was talking about change in the UK, specifically Europe, the Euro and Asylum seekers - I mentioned emigrating and he agreed saying 'Staying here would be like watching a beloved pet die of a disease'
Hit the nail right on it's head as far as I can see

May 18, There are many Canadians who would like to get out of NAFTA, in fact there were many Canadians who did not want to join in the first place. It would appear that the Americans make and flaunt the rules as they please. A good example is the softwood lumber issue. For the third time the WTO has ruled in Canada's favour, but apparently the US does not have to adhere to a WTO ruling, so we have to wait a couple of years while the issue slowly grinds it's way through NAFTA, meanwhile thousands of jobs are lost.
I am of an age I can still remember when the UK was still trading with the Commonwealth, food was much cheaper then. When the UK joined the EU and had to stop trading with the Commonwealth, it was quite devastating for the Commonwealth, who had to scramble to find new markets.
An interesting point to note. Our stores are selling Australian and New Zealand beef and lamb, every bit as good as Canadian and cheaper.
Aye - Andy.

Andy
do commonwealth countries actually feel they have ties to the uk anymore?.
Personally id be in favour of increasing trade with the commonwealth countries.
But i dont see why we cant just have free trade within europe, not sign up to tonnes of beurocracy
a simple example
the euro bank set IR at 2% today
bank of england has them at 3.75
reason? 2% would be a nightmare for the uk. With the already mad housing market going truly insane

You got it... and thats just one GOOD reason why not to join e'm.......Bloody foreigners and yes I am a Europhile and proud of our History Heretage and Language and do not want to see it lost to a few greedy businessmen. I know of no one who wants to join the EU and the government should take heed.

Andy and me have been singing this tune for so long it`s starting to sound familiar. Ditch European Federalism. Re-establish ties with some
Commonwealth countrys, free trade and common standards are fine. Devolving sovereignty to some fat bastard in Brussels is not. This isn`t a fantasy, it could work.
