The Puttie

Post by porty3 »

This is for the older Bootnecks.

If ever you get the chance to go to a re-union or a congealment of Booties find a Puttie that you may have in the loft and let them put it on. as any old Puttie wearer knows you can't wear another mans Putties and get it right. Only the owner knows where to start to get the correct finish. over to you, so you want to be a Marine. try the Puttie challange

Is the said Puttee to be worn in the traditional "Jap Sniper" style so common amongst Nods,or low slung ML style with a sock (hose top) turned over it.I'm sorry but these small details need to be cleared up for those younger members on the Forum.
Half way between my inner ankle and Achilles tendon was my starting point.

Other Ranks puttees =Very, very drab, hairy khaki.
Officers puttees =Very light,smooth material.

Woebetide the marine who boiled his puttees to the same colour as an officer.(they did'nt mind us boiling our wooly khaki ties so much)

 Way back into the middle ages when the Green Lid was bullet proof, and all webbing was black, black gaitors in tropical gear was like standing in a couple of flower pots, puttees much more comfortable, why did the provost always insist on the puttee tapes being white?so that you could see the 'Bastards' in the dark.Aye JR :wink:And why did the provost sergeant wear his rank on the bottom of his sleeve?,so all the Nods could call him 'Troop' and for all you who did'nt know who 'Troop' was Its the old term for Three Badge Marine?.

I can't understand how training can still be so long when they have done away with the puttie.
Learning to master the puttie week one through to twelve basic training. I wonder why more of us 'OLDER BOOTIES' (mmmmm) didn't go into the medical proffession.

They were still better than high leg boots anyday. I can remember when they brought the HLB in they had to issue trainers so people could do their BFT.... WIMPS

I feel sorry for owdun, who had to do his puttees up to just below the knee!

Once they had managed to get them on correctly, they never took them off, and that's how they ended up with trench foot!

Bloody hell, this topic brings back memories. I have been trying to get a pair of putties for about 5 years now, I think they have gone the same way as the dinosaur. If any one can help in this venture to get a pair I would really appreciate it. My friend Brian Eaton was trying but I think he came up against a brick wall. please let me know. Bob bell

I use it as my home page. Once asked about Alladin lamps. Now when I do them up for people I just go there.

Quite good for fancy dress, you could go as Owdun if you started at the knee. :P

Lastics HH! How uncouth, if you had a mate in mortar troop he could have fixed you up with a couple of rubber rings from the mortar bomb cannisters.

The Gut 0200, just like eating in a public convenience, except the food was brilliant.
