Running Time and Distance (and running related injuries)

Post by PHIL »

Hi there I currently can run my PB of 8 miles in 55 minutes
(and no I don't want a blue peter badge)

But I seem to be doing too much to soon because my foot started to hurt after I got in. Little to my surprise I was missing a huge piece of skin from the side of my foot. I have been wearing extra thick socks to prevent this sort of thing.

My feet are size 12. I don't weigh that much 11.5 stones and I'am 6 foot 3ins and find running very easy at a sensible pace, but my body wants to go but my feet are a bit boney and susceptible to injury.

If anybody can post comments or simiar cases, or even help so I may make an assumption on this feel free!

But no P*ssing Contests please!! (i,e My dad's bigger than your dad, ect.)

Thanks Phil :)

Hi Phil,Running injuries yes I am 6'2" and when I was in I sustained quite a few injuries.I served in the Para's for 4 years and you can imagine the amount of running that they do.Over the years the most noticeable injuries was my back, hips and knees.I am now 80% disabled due to these injuries over the years in the Army,I served 14 years, before I left, not because the problems. I took up a career in the Police and only got 5 years out of it due to the increase in the pain.I had these bone problems investigated by a Orthopaedic Surgeon and he formed a very strong opinion that the pains I was experiencing was due to Avascular Necrosis(which is when the blood supply to the hips is prevented for some reason)
I later found out that all my problems were related to my Parachuting, running on hard surfaces, jumping from heights such as 6ft and 12ft walls on the assault course, and believe it or not doing drill when you slam your feet down onto the hard parade ground tarmac. My back problems were caused by carrying heavy packs and heavy colleagues over my shoulders when we used to do the 100 yds run with them.At present I get a 50% War pension and I am still fighting them for an increase. If you should develope any such problems get them investigated immediately and get copies of your medical docs.Hope that this is of some use to you.

BIG TAM. :D

socks!!

Post by PHIL »

Is there any member that could suggest decent running socks as mine are utter tosh.
I currently do a PB of 1.5 mile in 9 minutes and find my poor feet in tatters with blisters gallore.

I can do it.
but it is a pain to be waiting 4 days till your feet heals again!
Also it may be my shoes, they are comfortable, but I hear that your feet swell considerably without noticing and tend rub your shoes! (sly divil') :bad-words:

Phil the best running socks must be WOOLEN ones.Make sure your running shoes/boots are comfortable and not to tight, to prevent your socks from sliding down and causing blisters, that is how they start. Many years ago I heard a member of 1 Para running team believe it or not, tell other runners to pi$$ on there feet regulary as this hardens the skin, I don't know if it is true, but maybe someone out here can clarify.

Taking the P*SS?

Post by PHIL »

Hey I heard of P*SSING on your chips and parade but never P*SSING on your feet! arghh thats disgusting, christ I sooner have BOILS fer feet rather than P*SSY feet!

By the way I use cotton socks (ahhh bless!)
was that the reason? maybe the shoes too!

P*SSIN' on yer feet?
if I did that I'd be arrested for gettin' me chopper out

I NEVER knew the paras where capable of such pervertion..

Yours worryingly PHIL.. :o

Phil,I can assure you it works I think maybe I was pissed at the time. The socks I preferred to wear wool as the cotton socks slide down and cause blisters.

It's a strange old thing the way everyone is better at certain things.

If only we could combine our skills and create "Super Count"

I can run 3 miles in a pair of sandals and still get sub 20 but as soon as I get down to pressups it all falls apart.

I dont know anyone (I do now) that runs in sandals. :o

"Super Count?" LOL your not BARE ARSE THE BANDIT by any chance are you?

You should wear some trainers you know, you'll injure yourself.

Going out for a jog with hardly no clothes on will get you a shed load of injuries! (by the sound of it..).

Your not one of those well 'ard marines are you?? take it easy...

You dont want to bugger your feet up for the PRMC do u?

Running in sandals indeed... OUCH!!

But yes joking aside I know what you mean by doing press-ups and yes, falling apart, but that is the pace of the RM, a frantic melee of arms and legs just for a warm up too.

A true strength of mind could surpass this PRMC.

99.9% need not apply.

instead of pissing on your feet try using surgical spirits to harden the skin

Humilation

Post by PHIL »

Just thought I should tell you this...

I did my first session of 'Circuit Training' last Tuesday.

I got well beasted.

Any bad form or stopping for any other reason than 'heart failure' meant 20 press-ups for everybody. A repeat of the above earns you 40 press-ups and then 60,80,100. The circuit is 12 stations, first circuit 45 sec each, second 1 min each (KILLER), third 30 sec each.

We screwed up twice that evening, 60 press-ups is not enjoyable.

Also I was further humilated by a grey haired old fart, 60 years old with a beer belly.
He absolutely PIS*ED all over me in fitness.
He even beat me at shuttle runs + twice round the 200m track (and I run 7min/miles, constantly for 10miles)

The circuit training required that you already be fit to join!!! you couldnt just turn up! I have been training for 5 months and I found it very hard (I exercise for 1.5hours and 3-4days a week too).

He lifted heavier weights and operated faster than me (and I am 23yrs old)

I just can't get over it. Maybe if keep on doing circuit training + boxercise, I might beat the other guy!

Maybe it the quality not quantity that counts! :P

lol, just stick to keepin fit.

Make a routine and just stick to it.

I bet you'll walk all over him in a few weeks, lol.

Maybe you should do exercise 5 days a week instead of 3-4 and maybe, also, you could join a gym. It's far easier to get motivated that way.

Doing it on your own is very difficult.

Eczema

Yeah and then my skin will crack and probably get a 'Eczema' not nice. :halfrobot:

The above was based on Murphy's Law "If the is a chance it will go wrong, it probably will" :drinking:

P.S (Murphy's law is NOT classic mid-80s hardcore merging skate punk with metal.)

B.T.W I still got my ass kicked by that 60 year old in Circuit Training last tuesday.
