HMS Albion - to be

Post by FUBAR »

For info .............

The RNs new LPD, ALBION, left Barrow on 17 December. Despite the fact that the 18,500 tonne vessel grounded brief ly on a sand bank she continued to sea for two days of sea trials. The ship is expected to move to the Clyde before Christmas where she will enter dry dock, for post trial inspections and hull painting.

Turning our ships into islands is becoming an expensive habit innit. don't know why we bother with DML at Devonport, it seems perfectly adequate to run 'em up on a beach at max chat then count the rivets.8)
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Rivets don't tell me they are still using them things to hold the ship together?

Did you ever find the golden one Rob?

There once was a cruise in 58/59 where a HMS Albion hit the bank in the suez canal, overturned a tug in Aden , dropped carley floats in Sydney harbour and finally ran aground in the river Plate , sounds like the tradition is carrying on with the new one . New member just spotted the topic

Hi Allan
How well I remember that cruise. Do you remember when we tied up in Freemantle and when opened ship to visitors 27,000 came onboard during the weekend. Great fun trying to get all those Aussie dolly birds out of all the hiding places and get them ashore!!

Well that was short and sweet; what happened to all the juicy bits!! :D Or is this one of those films where the camera pans out of the bedroom window just before the action starts? :o

Hmmm how bored are you?

Nah nothing much to tell, He went off on the annual tour of the West Indies, I carried on getting dizzy on the cruise ship between Nooo Yoik and Bermuda, we wrote to each other and then all dead romantic like, 6 months later, we just happened to bump into each other in that dodgy nightclub on Front Street right opposite the terminal.....Awwwwww! PUKE!

He turned into a right T***er (oops another unexpected word!) in the end though!

And thats about it! Of course, I could make up the Mills and Boon or Jackie Collins version of it all, depending on which you'd prefer!!!

JR, the Albion ran aground in the River Plate. The authorities were supposed to dredge the channel right up to Buenos Aires but you know what the Latin Americans are like. :o Just another incident in an incident packed commission - but very enjoyable all the same :D
