GIBRALTAR

Post by Mike »

Gentlemen, It appears that the occupants of the site of one of our greatest battle honours need some support!
:( As most of you will know, President Blair wants to give Gibraltar to the Spanish against the wishes of the Gibraltarians.
A few facts for those who have not seen the British press lately.
1. Gib has been British since 1704 (some of you will remember that YOMP)
2. Gib is financially self-sufficient, costing the UK nothing!
3. Gib is and has been and is a strategic military base, free of charge to UK!
4. Gib is self-governing, secure and politically stable.
5. Gib is the biggest ship bunkering port in the Med.
6. Gib is a successful Int. financial centre regulated by UK and EU
7. Gib has been a loyal friend in peace and war.

No wonder the Spanish want it!
As a mark of support I urge everyone of you to send an Email to the following address. info@gibraltar.gov.uk

Aye
The Honourable Lord Mike of Loch Borralan

Well done Mike. As a reminder to others. Occasionally, just occasionally the little guy can win. If you consider that this issue is one worth fighting for,AGAIN, (honest, I was not on the first foray). Do as Mike asks and register your strongest protest to the powers that be.

Andy.

Fair shout Mike and Andy - this news report is encouraging.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/ ... 997536.stm

Although control of the military bases and assets is apparently not part of the deal (at present) I can't help agreeing with Malcolm Rifkind who said that it won't be long before the Spaniards start tub thumping about this as well (it seems from the report that they already are). We shouldn't give them an inch and should respect the wishes of the Gibraltarians no matter what.

Anyone remember Charlies Hole in the Wall?

Gib harbour

Never mind that, does anyone remember the night (Autumn '71, 41 Cdo en-route to Malta) - a matelot or two peeled off the dry dock gates into the dry side of a very deep dock, and when all the chaos died down a bit the search started for the doomer who was trying to swim back to the 'B' across the harbour. Oh wot fun! Who was that sober colour sgt who roped down to check for lack of life?
I'd like to print that Blair, who has not one single jot of an idea about this happy Corps illustrious past, is a w@#k of the first high water but I'm not sure that is fair on that band of solo instrumentalists.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

Blllaaaiiirrr the sheep said and followed the spaniard back to the rock.
I am sure the Spaniards won't want it back until the apes are all dead after all they are just hairy arsed marines who never went home after the first run ashore...
I thought the word was that it would never be parted from England until the last one died anyway, shouldn't the apes have their say theyve lived their the longest and I doubt they could be taught Spanish anyway.

Guys,
the Jimmy Young prog had Gerald Kaufman on today, he thinks the whole idea of joint sovereignty is an effing load of old bollocks(his words, not mine  )
Your scribe rang the prog and actually got through! I made the points that you would expect me to, and allso the fact that the Spanish are not having the same meetings with the pres of Morocco, about the bit of it that Spain wants to keep. The guy asked for my name:-
"Harry Hackedoff", says I
"Thanks, Harry, that was very interesting, what did you say your last name was?"
"Hackedoff"
"Is that a real name?"
"No"
"I`ll tell Jimmy that, it`ll make him laugh"

Blair is still a cult, he cares nothing for the history of these islands. He cares less for the people of Gib.

After all, what does it matter, we are all going to be one big happy family, ruled by(sorry, from) Brussels

Keeping the I in GB

Post by Mutley »

Best rabbit I ever got: haggled down from a tenner to ten bob, a bloody marvellous watch, still works fine, never been cleaned, never been repaired - looks so crass it even survived an overnight in a Gib police cell.

My grandfather lies peacefully on the rock. During one of the runs ashore I decided to find his grave. After wasting an hour trying to find it myself. I asked a few people in a couple of bars (as you do) the best way to find it. I was directed to a block of rundown flats with a name on a piece of paper. The guy I met knew instantly, and walked me through the graveyard and directed me straight to the grave. I was surprised to see it was clean and tidy and hardly a weed in sight. I discovered that for many years his grave was tended by this guy who voluntarily kept a number of British graves, without any form of payment; because, they were a long way from home (the motherland) and he wanted to make them comfortable in 'Little Britain'. He refused any payment, but accepted the invite to join me for a beer, and after joining up with some of the lads we had a hoofing run ashore, after all he knew some of the less well known haunts. But thats another story.

Long may the Union Flag Flutter at the gateway to the Med.

Living in the Colonies I don't always get the most up to date news on the Gibralter situation, however, this morning I was given a reminder by an ex colleague that the fight is not yet over, or won. As a result I got back onto my soap box and wrote a letter of support for the people of Gibraltar.

During our careers we have fought to preserve democracy, or what was perceived by the government to be democracy. Where is the democracy in this situation?

As I have stated before, occasionally the little guy can win. I would urge, those of like mind, to keep putting pressure on the government over this situation, until they eventually get the message and do what the Gibraltarians want. Get your family and friends to write, lobby your MP's, do whatever it takes to win this one for the people of Gibraltar. Remember the old saying, the pen is mightier than the sword.

As a secondary issue, think of the cost of having to change our colours, badges, belt buckles, etc.

Yours aye,

Andy O'Pray
