Son to go to Lympstone Monday - can you help please?

Post by mollygrub »

Hello all, my son is off to Lympstone on Monday and I have so many questions - I am really hoping some of you can help me please........

For the family day how many people can normally go please?
Is there anything I can do to help/support him whilst he is doing his training without making him feel like I am being a 'pain'. It is going to be very strange for me as it has just been me and him for 20 years and I dont want him to be embarressed by me!

I would be really grateful for any help/advice from other chaps who have been through this please?

Thanks for reading....... Moll x

Wecome Moll!

Glad to see your son's made a great choice and if he makes it, will never look back and be proud to be apart of the Corps.

Familys day depends on the size of the troop, when i did mine we were aloud 5 guests each. More maybe possibly on request though.

Best thing youcan do as a mum i expect is, as my mam did, support me even though she didnt like the idea, even at the familys day stage was proud and after the lectures and presentions the familys received on the day was won over! she as well as my dad where won over to the idea! Get your self down as well as; as much family as possible, siblings grandparents etc, its all support he'll need !!

Listen to his stories on the phone, when we can phone, it wont be everynight so prepare yourself for that. when he's hanging out with no sleep and feels like the worlds on top of him pressing down. do was mams do best, off support and tell him how proud you are.

Just dont shout and wave when you seem him as that would emarrrase him, specially on parade!!

Familys day is a great idea i feel!

Hello Davo, thanks very much for replying! I promise I won't wave at him but it will be hard to hold myself back! I shall practice self control!

Your reply is much appreciated as it is quite hard to know what to expect really and I just want to support him but not suffocate him! It is hard letting go I guess but he is so determined and I am so proud of him but forget he is a grown man now!

Thanks again, Moll x

Hi Moll,

Your son will be told how many he can invite and you will recieve an official invitation from CTC. You don't get to see much of your boy as it is more or less a normal day for them but you do get to have lunch with them, see their accomodation, watch their gym session and drill. The families have a number of info lectures, look round Hunter, see the assault course etc.

The best way to help your lad during training is to just be there for him on the end of the phone, both in the bad times (and there will be lots) and the good (there will be lots of these too). Empathise when things are tough, but remind him why he is doing this, and that things will get better.
At times perhaps send a few parcels of sweets/chocolate etc to cheer him up - oh & send a bit extra in case the training team decide they'd like some too LOL.
