1 Rifles Commando Role??
1 Rifles Commando Role??
I am currently awaiting a date for selection, i want to go infantry i was planning on going 3 Mercian ( Staffords ) as i am from stafford myself, But i have just read that 1 Rifles as of April are attatched to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines...does that mean that if i was to go Rifles, i would have the option of taking the commando course??
Any replys, advice or info on the AACC would be great!!!
P.S is there a beat up course for before the AACC?? again any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks in advice!!!

I'm not sure myself but I thought that only a certain number of those in 1 RIFLES had to be Commando trained and even then I hear it is the intention that they will get the shite jobs as I don't think that the blokes in the Royal Marines aren't too happy about it. As I say though that's just off the top of my head from what I remember reading... Sorry for being so brief, I'm on my iPhone so its a bitch typing out a lot.
Not sure "when" the Rifles will be doing the Commando course but just a few thoughts.
1. Failure rate is about 50-60%, a lot of those injured will be out of use for a long time. Be prepared for quite a few permanently broken bodies that will lead to medical discharge.
2. ALL Ranks will need to do the course (CO, and all the Hierachy too).
3. To prepare fully for the course will need about a 2 month beat up.
4. CTCRM is full of RM and attached Arms doing the course so where will they put you, and what affect will it have on RM training?
5. Who will fulfill the Rifles Op commitments while this takes place.
6. Check out the RM website and it will give you the Commando tests in detail.

Oh Dear3. To prepare fully for the course will need about a 2 month beat up.
Are you sure about that mate
Wanting is never enough, even if it`s the MOD who are doing the wanting.
Raging success in the making, p`raps not
99.99% need not apply.
Is Sharpe still in the Rifles then?

Yep, you need to make sure you suit heels and a nurses outfit. Then there's the roll-mat fighting and mud wrestling competition. Finally the 'quickest to surrender on a boat' competitionRMC wrote:P.S is there a beat up course for before the AACC?? again any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
As harry would say, 99% (of straight blokes) need not apply.

Would they need to do the AACC? As I recall 2 of the Para Battalions were part of 3 Commando Brigade for Op Corporate. No one suggested they should be Commando trained. Putting indoctrination to one side (difficult though that is) I wouldn't have a big issue with non Commando trained units being alongside the Corps during operations. It`s not as if they are going to mix sections and companies is it?? Surely each of the units will operate with their own lot.
Not sure I`m making my point clearly but in essence what I mean is, if I am a marine in a Troop i`m surely not likely to be sharins a bivvy with one of the Rifles lot am I?? Or have things changed since my day?
Notwithstanding that which has already been said, they still deserve a lot of abuse just for being Perce!!!

Depends what the MOD are trying to do, if they are trying to give the Corps a 4th Manouvre Unit aligned on the Army system then so be it. If they are trying to get an Army Cdo established then once again the "good ideas club" at MOD have probably gone off half cocked.
The Rifles may well be thrown in at the deep end by lack of forethought at MOD, they will need time to prepare, I always thought that you had to volunteer to undertake the AACC? So if some from the Rifles don't fancy it what then? It could mean stripping guys from other Batts to make up the numbers on the AACC.
Why don't they just reform 41 CDO? Oh thats right after paring the Army down to the bone they couldn't be seen reforming another Unit........
As for Para Regt, its always been understood that they are on a par with the Corps. Thats why we never did P Coy before the jumps course and they never did the Cdo course when on exchange. (Some did out of personal pride).
Working with/alongside Army units has happened for years NI, Telic, Herrick etc.
MOD.........bloody useless.

Nearly right mate. The geezers who run AACC will always have more applicants than places on course. At the forefront in their selection criteria is how usefull to 3 Cdo Bde will each applicant be. Hobby badge fans need not apply.
Whatever you or I think about 1 Rifles getting this gig, is unimportant. The decision is made.
I do wonder how it is being implemented though.
AACC is passable.
It is designed to be passable.
The Bde needs Army ranks to enable it to function. Adding on a whole Battalion of blokes in one fowl swoop concerns me though.
Are the lads being trained up for it? If so, by whom? What about guys in 1 Rifles who think it`s a shit idea or who can`t be arsed? Will there be any "De-Percification/Resistance is futile" period?
What will really be the role of these lads?
They won`t be all singing all dancing hard hitting fast moving but seldom accurate you can`t bend it Royal Marine Commandos, so exactly what will they be?
And why would anyone want to join this when the real deal is available, just down the street?
My view is, if the Bde needs more bods, then let`s re-form one of the dormant Commando Units, fill it with blokes from the rest of Bde and recruit like fark for a couple of years to make up the shortfall.
