Not sure if you were being serious or not but............you would probably get to handle an AK47 if you go to Iraq/Afghanistan you may even get the chance to possibly put a few rounds down a range but you won't ever go on patrol/operations with one.

AK's a decent weapon, reliability-wise. You'd have to fill it with concrete to stop it working. Lots of 'em, many variations, a reasonable 7.62 X 39mm round, and plentiful ammo. On the down side: Poor iron-sighting system, making for slower target aquisition, limited ability to install attachments (optics, lights, lasers, etc.), and a tendency in newbies and nervouse types to slip the fire selection lever through semi-auto to full auto. Gimme any M16/AR15 variant, Springfield, or Swiss Arms any day.
