Does anyone know of a reason for someone to change their name and then to re enlist into the RGA in the late 1800's?
My great, great uncle seems to have been a bad boy early on in his career, nd was discharged from the 21st Hussars only to re enlist a year later into the RA and under a different name which is verified on his army records.
It also suprises me that the army seemed to have sanctioned the fact that he changed his name

Name change
Many strange things happen on records, my great grandfather who was a RM for 30 years in the 19th Century managed to have a slightly different name, date of birth and place of birth on every census form he ever appeared on. I could only keep track of him threw his wife and kids especially my grandmother who had a unusual christian name.
