Yeah ive been told you can do P-coy like Tab said and also the commando course part I think it is but they require a high level of fitness to pass as you will be doing them along with other recruit Paras and Marines.

I suppose in theory you could do both but engineers tend to be one or the other - either 9 Para Sqn RE or 59 Cdo RE. I came across plenty of 59 lads who had their wings but I'm not sure whether they had to do P Coy after the all arms cdo course (AACC) - I seem to remember that they did. For a bootneck (RM) to get his para wings he would just rock up to Brize for the jumps course but I don't think the AACC allows you to do this - I may be wrong.

Tom, the AACC is run completely separately from recruit training - I think because they want to keep the nods away from bad habbits  But you're right a high level of fitness (and more importantly the mental element) is required for both - I can't imagine there's much to choose between the two.

Id suggest have a look through 59 Squadron RE website. Theyve got a lot of useful information and some interesting personal accounts of how everything happens.

Tom163............Your fitness will have to be equeal to those in the Parachute Regiment if the Para's is your choice. I think the exception ever made was for Prince Charles

tab
i was told that too.
did prince charles actually get them??its not so easy to get those wings and blue band of courage on his arm? in my heart im thinking there is no way a senior member of state colnel in chief etc(sorry bit drunk)could do that. reference i.e prince edward(rm) . I know p. charles is made of more english stuff I actually think he was given it (headwise)... heart wise says he earned it.??did he? anyway bit drunk now but if charles has done it properly as apposed to what my instructors at the time were saying then , tab, as you will agree .. long live the king!

but at same time (personally i think he is 'best' guy for maroon at min in fact i think only guy. hes mad but straightforward(more straightforaward) the ultimate would be if will or harry went airborne! a leader as mad as their troops maybe!!

Odd.
How is it that members of MF&T get jumped on for incorrect spelling/grammar but here it's acceptable.

Double standard?

Yeah sorry Tab I should have made that more clearer, I just ment that if he did wanted to do P-coy he would have to be up to mark on the fitness side of things to get a chance at passing.
