Digging Up The Past

Aloha, well to get straight into it, a few days ago, I found an old looking thing. Turns out, this "old looking thing" just happened to be a Certificate Of Service.

I know this is a real long shot but I have two questions, is there by any miricle, anyone who served in the Royal Marines between the 7th July, 1942 & at least the 29th October, 1964.
If You have, would anyone be able to tell me if they knew of, or even had contact with anyone by the name of either, Mne, Sgt, C/Sgt or QMS A.W.E. Impett.

Basically, he was my grandad & I would like to find out more about him as he died before I was born.

Another piece of information; he was also a member of the Royal British Legion (Hamilton Road, Bangor) around 1980-1982.

When I made enquiries about a foolish relative who spent 30 years in RM I was told to contact CRO at Kew. At Kew they don't answer enquiries but have approved people that will check out your enquiry for just a £1.00 per minute. Now if you are the first one he looks at in the morning I wonder if he charges you traveling time at £1.00 per minute

The Name 'Impett' certainly a blast from the past Check his service certificate I am sure 'Lofty' Impett served in 40 Commando during the 50's I'm not to sure of the dates I may have served with him It could have been at the ITCRM but I'm sure it was 40 Commando check the dates,All the best.Aye jr

JR!! His nickname was Lofty! My uncle always acknowledged him as Lofty!! Did you ever chat with him? If you did, can you tell me anything about him, because according to his service certificates, he served with plenty of different units, 43, 41 (didnt even know they existed) But yesh, if you ever spoke with him, please PM me. I would love to know more about him.

Digging up an old post I know but the other day, I had a look around the Royal Marines Museum and blow me down, I saw a picture of my grandad there training the Sultans troops in Oman. He was one of 6 Royal Marines sent to train the soldiers but ended up in a tribal war. I have the original newspaper clipping along with original picture, which is on show at the RMM

My Uncle was a Royal Marine from '49,
don't know how long he was in for though,
have very little information on him,
his name was Edward Charles Matthews Merryweather,
just thought he might have served with your Granddad.
