hi lorriane, thanks for your replie. my hubby and i have not decided yet where in devon we will be moving to, but he wants to look in either lympstone or exmouth. there are a lot of things to do before we go down to devon. i am a bit apprehensive about such a bit big move as we have just had a new baby. and i have other children too. and going from having him with me all the time to not having him there while he is training and then after his training is finished. he says it will be ok as he has done it all before. maybe i am just worrying over nothing and everthing will be fine. thanks anyway caroline

Hi Caroline. My partner is an ex-booty, I was not with him when he was in the marines, So I can't tell you what it will be like, being a marines wife. But I was 5 months pregnant with my 1st baby, when I moved from the north-east to Exmouth in Devon. So I had no family around at all. But as you know having kids you soon find lots of friends. I made plenty good friends. You said you and your husband are looking at Exmouth or Lympstone. I absolutely loved Exmouth and wished I still lived there.
I think its better for kids there, the beach, plenty of good schools, sports centre and lots more.. There is definitely more there than Lympstone. You'll get used to your hubby not been around, my partner was not around much, had a business to run. I coped fine. I think you will too, as you know us women just get on with it, as we all do so well. I think you'll enjoy Devon, great place, and a lot of great people.

I'm sorry it's taken so long to reply busy getting a birthday sorted for my eldest.
With regards to rented accomodation in Exmouth and the surrounding area the fact is that there is a shortage of good cheap accommodation, in fact there is no such thing as cheap in Exmouth.
We were looking to move back down last year and found the prices into the four to five hundred pounds for a flat.
The council have a very extensive waiting list due to the popularity of the area, plus being RM they will very rarely allow you onto the list unless you or your spouse were born there. The fact is there is married quaters available as far as they are concerned.
The best place is to look at Exeter and the surrounding area where prices are more reasonable and the accommodation is more readily available.
Exeter has one of the best shopping centres in the South West. You will also find lots more to do and see.

Caroline, Just quickly read though all above.

Get him to ask as soon as he starts training, or even before, to see the welfare officer.

From that he should be able to see the married families office and get a married quarter.

Or as when I eventually got posted nearer to home, so that I came home nearly every night. The kids said to the wife. Isn't he going away again???

Great to be wanted???
