It's gonna be cold and you're gonna get beasted :D

You'll get lots of talks, presentations and lots of phys. Coming off civvie street, the acquaint is pretty intense but is an absolute walk in the park compared to the aptitude week you'll do at the end of your basic training.

Work on being able to bash out chins and dips whilst you are knackered. Give it 150% and come out grinning like a loon and you'll be fine. They are looking for above average intelligence, fitness and bloody-minded determination. If you do it and don't enjoy it, then look into another branch, because you won't make it through the aptitude week if your heart isn't in it.

As for serving on an MCM, it's more like 18-24 Months and as far as I know it hasn't stopped.

Good luck.
If it doesn't hurt it's not worth doing!

Hey mate I did my acquaint course back in September. It's a pretty tough but enjoyable day. In the morning you'll have a presentation by a warrent officer, detailing about what will you be doing over the day. Then you will watch a navy diving video which shows you about the job, and training.

After that you will go outside to conduct you DPFT which as you should know;

1.5 mile run 10:30
40 situps Minimum
16 tricept dips Minimum
8 underarm pull ups Minimum

After that you will go to the fleet diving HQ to have a talk about each diving unit, shown all equipment and photoes. Not long after that you will go to stores and draw out a Drysuit, fins, knife, air bottle and then you will practice putting them on in 2 mins.

After lunce you go on a tour of th DDS, on this you will be shown the mud run area, paisly tank, different training areas in the lake, deompression chambers etc. Also you should see some diving training being conducted.

After the tour it's back into your drysuit to conduct circuit training. This involves jumping from the 6metre diving board, putting you fins on in the water, swimming accross to the other side, then running around, you will do this about 3 times.

After that you may be feeling a tad bit knackerd but there is more too come hehe. After circuits you jump in and out of the lake 5 times ( Quite strenuous) then you will do a mile run in your drysuit all the way up to the far end, then swim all the way back down.

After that you will have a little rest before the endurence event, this consits of running around the lake doing sprints, pressups, situps, and a shit load of leg exercises.

That basically sums up the course good luck mate. Remembver there will be times that you will want to quit DON'T!! The diving staff are ace to talk to and are really encouraging.
If you are determined enough to do something, then you will succeed at anything.

They gave me the option of doing the Feb acquaint, but I turned it down cos I just don't think I'll be fit enough by then. Been helluva lazy over the xmas period and all that...

Anyone know how often the acquaints come along? I hope the next one's not bloody September, I'll be gutted.
