First off welcome.

Try this site for an all over set of tests to prepare yourself for the Corp. It's designed by a Yank USMC Major and this or one like it was used quite a lot by the Royal Marines both in training and in units. Hope it helps.

Also get yourself a training partner if you can and get running and running and running. Don't however try running with weight on your back. Once at CTC the training teams will get you up to the standard required for this. Why not try MF&T the sister site to this one as there are rucks of lads over there all with the same aim; to be a Bootneck.

Some are young and a bit daft but there are some stickys there that will help you enormously. Also get yourself a Map and Compass and start Yomping hither and thither to get yourself prepared for all those nice bimbles over Dartmoor and Woodbury Common. Hope that helps a bit anyway.

Thanks to the artist will take your advice i'm currently doing about 20 + miles a week on my mountain bike to try and get super fit.
Going to incorporate running about 3 miles 4 times a week and doing sit ups and press ups.

Do you think that this would be enough in prep for my prmc or do i need to incorporate gym work and swimming as my swimming isn't that good.

thanks

I've been out quite a while so best ask some of the blokes who've recently been there and done it such as druadan ref PRMC and suchlike (I'm sure he would not object to you asking him via a PM what is required). Or hit the search button and type in PRMC and you will get a ruck of info ref the requirements of the PRMC.

Bike riding is fine but remember it uses different muscle groups from those you use when running and yomping. The same goes for swimming as well but keep it up because if you can't pass the BST (Battle Swimming Test) you won't pass out.

You don't need to be a superman to do the PRMC. You need to be fit true enough. But muscle bosuns who can lift a ton doing a benchpress, Gym freaks who work out everyday honing their bodies to perfection are not what the Corp want.

Blokes like that tend to wrap when it comes to the unexpected. Such as being told that they have to Yomp another ten miles when they think the Exercise has finished at 0300hrs in the morning on a wet and windy Tor in the middle of Dartmoor. It's not all Phsyical stuff a lot of it is mental. So a Positive Mental Attitude is a major requirement before, during and after training.

All the Corp want are blokes with that little bit extra between their ears when it comes to hard graft and suchlike.

Ex pongo? Well, if I must...

Take Artist's advice and check out MFAT if it's training tips you need, ignore all the youngsters' babble and there's plenty of good advice on there. For a good pass, I would aim for 50 press ups minimum, 60 sit ups min, and 8 pull ups min, as well as 3 miles in 21 minutes. This will make sure you are plenty fit enough to pass, everything else is in your head.

Re: swimming, you don't need to be able to swim to pass your PRMC, they just do an assessment. However, if you can't swim or are weak they will advise you to get lessons before starting training. You don't want to be spending your lunchtimes and evenings doing extra swim sessions in training, so if you're weak get in the pool now (it's also excellent CV, especially for 'rest' days in your training schedule), and if necessary get yourself a few adult lessons.

You'll have a big advantage having been Perce, at least you'll be used to the admin, living with other blokes and have some of the skills.

Feel free to PM me, but I'm only here til Tues then off to Afghan.
