Hi there everyone,

My name's Mike Stevens, ex-Household Cavalry (hence the username). Was in for 10 years, armoured and ceremonial. Now work in Defence recruiting. Been out for 4 years, found it quite wierd getting out, but still enjoying Civi Strase. Can't get rid of the hair-cut and bulled boots though. Old habits die hard!

Good to see so many people on the forum, looks a lively and friendly place. Nice to meet you all.

Thanks for the welcome. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh the stories I could tell about the Ceremonial Regt. "Alleged" stories obviously, as my lawyer has told me to say.

Stories about Smarties, bicycles and foreign tourists!

What were you Mike, Blues & Royals or Life Guards. And is it true that the Blues & Royals are the oldest continuous regiment in the British Army.

I was Life Guards.

L/G and RHG/D (Blues and Royals) are "sister" regts. L/G wear Red tunics and white plumes as in my avatar and RHG/D wear Dark Blue (Black) tunics and red plumes.

The Life Guards are the senior regiment of the British Army. Just before the Restoration of King Charles II, a Royal Mounted Bodyguard was formed in Holland from eighty Royalists who had gone into exile with The King after the Battle of Worcester in 1652. In March 1660, The King appointed Officers to three Troops of Horse Guards.

The Blues and Royals were formed in 1969 from an amalgamation of The Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) and The Royal Dragoons (The Royals).

So quite a difference between the two.

That's why the L/G ride/march on the right hand side of any parade, due to being the senior regt. UNLESS Kings Troop (RHA) are riding with their guns, in which case they are allowed to ride on the furthest right.

Sorry, got all carried away with my history then. Yawwwwwwwwwwn! LOL

Understood, Mike.
Always better to ask someone in the know.
I just always thought if a regiment(amalgamated or not) could trace its history back to whatever time (RHG to 1650(I think), then that's what you went by.
I've got a mate who who's ex Scots DG's who's always giving his take on things historical with his Regiment.
Anyway there is another forum on military history within here that this sort of stuff should be on.

Ha ha ha! I wondered how long it would take. I was going to put my name as "Donkey Walloper", but went for the PG version instead.

Cheers for the welcome!
