You should then look in the recommended media section there are a few there but not too many.
Nomad wrote:Simon Bywater's book an excellent read, find out about training in the 8's and what it is like to go through along with life in the Corps after training. ad later the Police Force in Mancheter...

This book covers many aspects of the Military and Police service including PTSD...

New for 2003 go and buy it it is a very good read, no crap, just how it is. I read it in 1 sitting.

I'd defintely recommend Reflected Glory and The Making of a Royal Marines Commando.

RG follows certain individuals through training and then their experiences in Ulster during the Seventies. It's written from a narrative point of view, very easy to follow but, most importantly, it's a can't-put-down-book (onelineravoidnacedoofer).

The latter mentioned book, is more about roles of the Corps and tasks they have taken on. It's getting old now, but I thought it was great. Definitely kicks some of the myths in to touch.

Later days,

Darce
To Err is human, to Moo - Bovine...

RM books and Streven Preece

Post by chrisaryee »

There's quite a few good books out there. check amazon.co.uk. You'll find a good list. Am I the only one who thinks Steven Preece is a shit writer? His book on the marines is such a poor one, surprised he was even in there. He doesn't have one good thing to say about them. All he talks about is his sorry life, getting pissed day in, day out, and doing bugger all. Definitely not a recommended read. Don't waste your time.

I disagree. As he explains in his books he wrote them as a way of the leaving the Corps mentally as well as physically and at the end of the day he is just telling his story. As he points out other Royal Marines led very different lives.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but I don't think you will make a career out of book reviewing given your lack of constructive criticism.

I would recommend First into Action by Duncan Falconer.

EDIT: Chris, I see you are into Real Estate. I bet you don't write reviews such as "This is a sh*t house" but instead "This house is full of potential". :D :D

Cheers
James
