Hi CardSharpe. Thanks for the PM. Don't feel that you don't want to post on your own thread anymore, just because of idiots on here causing trouble.
There shouldn't be any more hassle. Admin are watching.
I certainly won't be bullied off here.

How are your blisters? Tee hee. I'm not laughing, honest.
I've still got some stella ones from a few weeks ago that don't seem to want to go away. :x
I've got one on the ball of my foot that looks just like a fried egg....the same size & colour......the yolk & white bits...everything......
Aren't you glad I shared that with you?! :P
Hope the bugger goes before the race.

Get those boots worn in. You've got to look after your tootsies.

We'll have to say hi at the race.
Look out for a hot little brunette running past........ :o
( That won't be me like. I'm neither brunette nor particularly little or hot, but you never know your luck.......you might meet a hot little brunette..... )

Surprised they did well or surprised they did crap?
Don't underestimate it.
I thought I'd trained quite well. I'd run hills, & had done 8 miles with bergen on the roads ok. But doing a 9 miler over fells ( hills ) was a different story.
Maybe because it was hot, or because I ended up doing a lot more than 9 miles having got lost, ( plus it was a mile to the start line..... ) but it was hard going.
I wouldn't get complacent, but don't do too much training either.

I'm doing a 5.5 mile fell race tomorrow, with bergen & boots.
Sounds like a good one, & it's got a water crossing. :o

I understand where your coming from Ria and appreciate it. Basically what I was saying was that some people tend to rise to the big occasion etc. some people do and some don't.

I am getting far from complacent etc. and TBH I don't know exactly what to expect from it. I've recently incorporated steep(and I mean steep) hills into my runs etc. and it went ok(ish).

What sort of timings are you knocking out Ria on your runs, how do you run. By that I mean do you go pretty swiftly for say a mile then have minutes worth of marching or do you plod along at set speed and adjust for going up and down hills?

Cheers Kieran

I vary what I do from day to day. I tend to run every day. One day I'll do an hour along the Pennine Trail, as the ground is quite rocky & muddy in places, so it's harder than running on the roads. ( I never run on the roads anyway, as boys shout rude things at me....... :o )
Half way I vere off into a park where there are a couple of really good big hills. ( And dog walkers shout rude things at me......... )
Another day I'll do 2.5 to 3 hours of running a bit, fast walking a bit, so I know I can keep going ok for 3 hours.
Another day I'll do something with a bergen, although this gives me back & neck problems, ( remember I'm very very old.....) so I don't do too much with that.
I run a lot with my brothers & they are totally evil, so a competitive edge helps.
At home I do all the usual stuff, plus all the mullarkey gymnasts do to try & keep in some sort of shape.

Thanks for the PM's. Nice to see a young man with a positive attitude to women.
You say you can't do many big sessions per week, so I'd say to make every session beneficial, plan what you're going to do carefully, to get the best effect.
Often it's quality not quantity that works.
If you have niggling injuries, sounds like you're being sensible. You've a few weeks yet, so plenty of time to recover if you are careful.

I'm doing a fell race on Tues & Weds evening, so I'll let you know the times.

I've been continuing to do some fell races, with bergen/boots, to practice for this.
I did a couple of evening ones.
Now, a super-human fell runner may be able to set off at 7.30pm & do 6 miles before dark.......myself.....well, bimbling back through a wood as night set in ......an interesting experience.
At least I had Lamas for company. :P Yes, Lamas in the next field.

Did one last weekend over a very boggy moor.
The fell runners just seem to "glide" over the muddy bits, like they can walk on water. Me....I just plop straight in up to my shins. :-?

Seem to have lost all my motivation for this race now, after a fall in which I broke my wrist & injured my hip. My hip being the main problem.
I've transferred to the runners race, as I'm not sure my hip can cope with the bergen, though may change back on the day.
Doing one more fell race, on Sunday, with bergen/boots, ( 5 miles ) to see how I do.

Is everyone else ok & ready to do the business??? :D

I passed my test and bought my first "big" motorbike last week, which has been detrimental to my training to say the least! zooming around on that is far too much fun :( but I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be :D

Looking forward to just getting there and seeing how it goes.

just completed my last bergen run today to give myself a little break before the big event.
8 miles in 1 hour 36 minutes with boots and 35 pound bergen.
it was mostly long uphills, and my legs were still dead from yesterdays bergen run so im quite happy with it, however, i thought my feet had hardened to the boots but from todays run i now have massive blisters on my heels, like golf ball size. gutted. i will however just bite the bullet and take the pain as much as i can. blisters certainly aint gonna beat me.
how is everybodys elses training going, any other issues.

Nice going phoenix!

I did 10 miles in 2 hours 30ish minutes a few weeks ago, but I too got massive blisters on my heels, I'm not sure my boots are properly worn in yet but I guess, like you, I'll just have to take it as it comes on the day.

I've done several 4/5 milers so far, although I've struggled to find much time this last week. This afternoon I did 3 miles at just under a 14 minute mile pace, which seems to be the near the best I can manage so far, even though I dont have many decent hills to practice on!

So far I've been alternating between a moderate jog and a brisk walk when I've been out to try to keep my times down - I cant seem to keep a decent running pace up for long though.

I'm interested to see what the hills are like! Judging from the gradient map on the website it looks like its really quite varied throughout the entire course. The last hill especially, around the 8.5/9 mile mark, seems like it will be quite a challenge! it'll definitely be interesting :)

I entered this but got an ankle injury so had to pull out. gutted as i really wanted to take part. The first half looks the worst i think and two of those hills look steep.

Knocking out some decent times and the hill training was going well, had a rather nasty practical joke played on me aswell. Turns out for 2 weeks I'd been running with 49lbs :o , no wonder I was f@#k! But it has done a bit of damage to my knees which I wasn't impressed about.

We'll just have to see what happens.

If anyone needs a pace setter or someone to run with on this event just give us a shout, it would be a slow pace setter :D Call it intermediate  Just drop us a line!

I'm registered for this in the bergan event.

I've not done as many runs with weight as I'd like (7 so far, I'll do my last one this week on Thursday). When I have ran with a bergan I've been able to average slightly over 10kph (8.7kph avg is required for the 1hr 50m time). However, I should point out that my terrain doesn't exactly match the gradient as it appear on the paras10 map :-? :D I suspect this is where I'll come a bit unstuck.

I think you should do it anyway, even with a sore ankle. And you should come over & introduce yourself to me.
Then I could kick you really hard in the other ankle, so then you'd have two sore ankles.
(In response to your post on MF )
I won't need my "brian" cell for booting you in the b*llocks either....
(Am I getting the idea of this so-called "banter" then??? :P )

Ps. My brain cell isn't called Brian, she's called Doris.
