I was just wondering if someone could answer a serious question for me. Do the Spetsnaz do exchange or terms of service with other special forces or visa versa? Just wondering with the Russians not being actual allies.
Cheers to anyone who can answer my question.

Knife
Has knife gone?
Jeez i miss all the sport.
I've lost four fights in three minutes and my mate was shot by the SAS and lived, does that mean I can go Spetznaz and the SAS can't shoot?

Ignore the w4nkers or take the piss, wind them up or give them enough rope. Anyway you like mate. We have had some seriously demented Walters on here and without exception, eventually, they all stop posting, for some reason

"Spetsnaz" is a term that has been vastly misunderstood in the West.
The only forces who actually fall under the category of "Spetsnaz" are units of Spetsnaz GRU, which carries out deep recon and sabotage missions behind enemy lines.
It is mostly comprised of conscripts who are either taken straight from the recruitment office, transferred from other branches (usually VDV or recon Companies of infantry Divisions), or transferred from Recon faculties of the military schools (RVVDKU - Ryazan Airborne School, or NVOKU - Novosibirks Military School). After the completion of the service, soldiers either go onto civilian life, or stay and continue their officer's career where they receive additional training and territorial preparation (language, geography). Upon completion of the additional training, they are positioned in Officer's Companies (usually 1st Co.)
Currently there are 8 Separate Brigades, and 2 new Brigades are being formed.
I'm talking about Army Brigades.
Spetsnaz GRU also includes Naval Spetsnaz units attached to each Fleet (total of 5).
The other units who can carry out the same types of missions as Spetsnaz GRU are: 45th Separate Recon Regiment of VDV which consists of two Recon Batallions (218th and 901st); Special units of FSB: Unit "A" (Alfa), and Unit "V" (Vympel); Special units of Interior troops (VV); and two Separate Recon Batallions of 2nd and 3rd Guards Infantry Divisions; and Recon units of Naval Infantry.
There is also Special Unit of SVR (Foreign Intelligence), so called "Zaslon" but I don't know anything about them. From what I heard, they pick out the best soldiers from Spetsnaz GRU and units of FSB.
Just because some guys are wearing berets, ski-masks and bandanas they don't become spetsnaz! Unfortunately it became a mess after the collapse of USSR, "spetsnaz" has become a term known to everyone, and even some infantry wannabes are calling themselves spetsnaz! I don't have anything against infantry, but it makes me VERY mad whenever I see some of them wearing berets and "tel'nyashkas" (things for which we spilled our sweat and blood for), just to impress unknowing bystanders. But thankfully some of them get their asses kicked, and berets taken away.

Wrong. You can get into the SEALS from the public and their fitness tests are virtually identical to the Royal Marines.Slimer wrote:All Russian military spetsnaz units are directly subordinate to the GRU, regardless if they are ground, airborne or naval infantry. The Federal Border Guard Service, the Security Service and Internal Troops also have "Spetsnaz" units, although they arn't strictly what you would apply the term to (similar to calling SO19/SWAT/CIA paramilitaries special forces).
All NCO's are conscripts and so arn't upto the same standards as western SF (meaning SAS/SBS/Delta/SEALs ect) but are vastly superior to conventional russian troops.
The reports on the Airpower link above are well worth reading for anyone interested btw - all from the USAF Academy I beleive.

South African special forces are total nutters however, along with the Selous Scouts that used to roam around Rhodesia eating rotten baboons!

'An unofficial form of achievement within the South African Special Forces is when an Operator has completed a " Gunston 500" - named after the Surfing Championship. In the South African Special Forces context, a "Gunston 500" entails conducting an operation behind enemy lines, where one walks for 500 kilometres or more with full kit. Many Operators, and most who took part in the Angolan war, have completed at least one or many " Gunston 500's" .'

The guy on the site Pavel Tsatsouline used to be the guy in charge of phys throughout the spetznatz, now he lives in california and owns a fitness company bringing Russian fitness techniques to the West. They have some vastly differently ideas about fitness to us in the West. Apparently they don't do warm ups and the don't do pressups, they use things called kettlebells for trainnig.
Not trying to be contraversial, just thought the site was interesting.
