Does everyone do a pre-selection course? I've heard some people saying they've done it. Does that account for everyone?

I haven't got my selection dates yet mate. Should be getting them early next week. I'll be doing my selection at pirbright. I've just been seeing that a few people do a pre selection day and i was wanting to know why they do pre selection and why some people don't?
