They called us 'kassetenkopf' in the army. The ability to learn stuff parrot fashion and rhyme it off to annoy your pals. :P

I've not see that particular piece of handiwork with the SA80, they weren't yet in service when I left. I have seen something similar with other barrels. I've also seen guys trying to burn the pullthrough out of a barrel rather than make a twat out of themselves by showing it to the armourer  (not me no).

Favourite for us was to tie the pull through to a combination tool. Get one guy to hold the smg and the other would pull the wad through.

Well my wee Rock chum, you're about to learn something.

We didn't have one of they TAFRE things because our barrels didn't have foresights.

Na na na na na.

Aha I see you have fallen into my trap you armour-clad buffoon!!!

You will have to forgive my ignorance regarding tank related numbers but I am certain you will get the idea.

I was referring to the spare parts wallet issued to the GPMG L7A2 (carried bravely by heroes) whereas you will probably be referring to the L37 tank-mounted version (driven about a bit by poofs. Warm and dry, but poofs all the same!!).

God hates a smart arse but I don't care cos I love ME!!

PS Which element of the clank operating prongs were you a member of? I have the (dis) pleasure of working with a couple of different flavours.

Hmmm - I'm being insulted by a Rock and it stings *mummy-help*

L7A2 - v- L37? I can't remember the designations but the only difference in the receivers was the 'feed pawl depressor' on the top cover. We did carry enough spares to convert one of the jimpies into the light role at any given time, i.e a stock, trigger mech, bipod and light barrel with a 10 positon gas regulator. Our AA mounted weapon could be out of the mount in seconds and converted for ground use.

Different kettle of fish with the co-axial. It took too long to rip it out and in any case after firing a few boxes off, the receiver and barrel were a wee bit too hot to handle.

I was in the QRIH (now redesignated QRH after amalgamation).

How on earth would a Rock work with our people? We normally wouldn't let uncouth people on our panzers. I mean you might break one??

Perhaps you were digging trenches near us or working as a waiter in our cookhouse tent?? :P

Ammo detail? Were you polishing projectiles for us one day maybe?? :-?

PS: you still haven't told me which oil I should use on me obturators??

I am currently supervising the cav monkeys in our place. They are from northern regiments and therefore are common and not to be trusted. Both are what you call Sgt Majors but as you are no doubt aware that means I allow them to fetch and carry for me!

PS Now mobile the lounge where the long-haired general and her adj have summoned me to watch the classic film Oliver. Can't wait.

Hmmm, I see your dilemna with Northerners but they are still cavalry and you must treat them with respect. Otherwise we'll be forced to tie your limbs to four wee horsies and give them all a skelp on the arse.

I don't know how many regts are still using the 'sgt major' thing, I know we didn't but we did have several other customs which people found unusual.

You sooking up to the Ruperts then???

Now static this location as Long-Haired General threw me out of the lounge for annoying Adj. He He He they are soooo easy to fool!

On a serious note matey,

I am currently in a Joint Service post and we have a couple, in fcat 3 cav types here. Trying to remember the regts but I get a bit mixed up. QDG or RDG I think. I will find out tomorrow and let you know.

I genuinely enjoy the way things run here. We get to mingle with all sorts of cap badges and that can only be a good thing.

ss

PS Where are you now?

Dragoon Guards - yes, they'll do the 'sgt major' thing. Mind you there's worse. CoH, and Cpl/Major. Now there's a thing eh??

If you hang around the cavalry types long enough it might rub off on you. You'll know when you start saying things like, "driver, bring me my tea" or "isn't that a lovely wee horsie" :D

Come on you two!!
This is supposed to be a Special Forces Thread. I do admire the Cavalry and all other units if it comes to that - but they are NOT Special Forces. Take your mundane chatter to a different thread please.
