I am not doubting that you have done very hard training to get wherever it is that you are now.
But what exactly have you gained (or what did you plan to gain) by coming onto a forum for potential Royal Marines - which is full of potential and former Royal Marines - and saying that Commando training is easy?

You started the thread to get a reaction and you got it. It is exactly this kind of narrow-mindedness that is bringing these forums down.

Both Cdos and Paras are superb. A puerile, moronic and
pathetic thread interspersed with inaccurate information
serves no good purpose whatsoever.The simple answer is in

I recall being in Norway in the mid 80's doing Mountain & Arctic Warefare training. The Corps had at that time been serving in the arctic for around 16 years and were specialists in this field of warfare.

That year, the Paras were being taught Arctic Warfare by Bootnecks.

During that time we had a bit of friction with them in the bar at Gardermoen. It started off as friendly rivalry but got somewhat out of hand as more beer was consumed and the evening went on. Eventually we ended up scrapping, but I guess that was inevitable.

Later, we learned that the more senior paras were not too pleased with some of their younger ranks who had apparently started the trouble with us and they dealt with them in their own way!!!

The following morning we looked on as the paras left camp and we could feel a mutual air of respect between us.

Like I said previously. Both are tough soldiers, both are an elite and the rivalry keeps them both at the top of the pile.

I remember one guy on my training troop 4 years ago buying a T-shirt from the camp shop at lympstone, it said "God is airborne as he failed the commando course" unfortunatley our training team didn't like the lack of respect shown to the para's and he was duely given the thrashing of the week, needless to say he couldn't get his money back on the t shirt once he's been through the gorse and it was covered in mud.

Anyone who purports to have served in the Paras such as this person who feels the need to wind up Wannerbie Bootnecks is as far as I am concerned in real need of a visit to a trick cyclist. He needs help in other words as his entire life is really rather sad. This thread is now locked and over time will be deleted.
