Harry Im not having ago about what happened in Iran, they did what they needed to do to get through it. And they didnt give anything away.

It was just the behaviour when they were released. People criticise the British stiff upper lip but that would of been a good place to show it. Maybe Im being picky but waving, hugging each other and comparing there gifts. They didnt all do it so I dont think they were told to do it. One of them should of stepped in and said something. And this continued back in Britain as well. Hugging your Families and loved ones is different, thats alright (just wish the press weren't everywhere). But you dont hug each other in public. Very un-military.

Anyway glad there back. And like you said lets sort this ROE out. This cannot happen again.

I thought most of the guys did what they had to do, as do others on here. But the RN officer didn't need to do it with such enthusiasm.

Heard Col Bob Stewart on the TV today saying that the guys stories in the press conference by the mod had holes in it and were inconsistent and would be picked up by the media when they sell their stories.

British press kicking up a bit of a fuss about interrogation techniques by the Iranians, as though we would do any different. Several ended up dead at our place in Basra.

Who knows the truth on this one?

Your not a fan then H?

I see they are all getting criticised for selling their stories, seems that the media has turned the focus off Iran's behaviour and now onto whether it is right or not for the 15 to sell the stories.

MOD and HMG may have screwed up again,

Hid well the news that Iran owns twenty % of the shares in the FRENCH
uranium processing factory - that Dubya ok'd the sale of arms from
North Korea to Ethiopia - and a few more media revelations......

We've had varying information on the fifteen hostages here in Norway....
Media seems to change from country to country.

Psssst - anyone interested in what I did - you can have the stories of
everything from runs ashore in Pompey - Deal with full names of Grannies etc to the hard history of Fort Morbut - Straight Street, Bughis Street, Union Street - all for a fiver or so.....

Hey man Harry - we'd be rich - if anyone gave a toss.....

The big mistake made is when they came home.
When they were in Iran they said what they had to. It was obvious to me on the final news thing they were being orchestrated.
Did you not see the Iranian pointing to them where to stand in a straight line .
Did you not see the same bloke telling them when to applaud.

What has happen since will stick in a lot of peoples craw.
No way should they sell there stories at this moment.

It has beeen said elsewhere they shouldn't have done this and that.
What gets on my goat is the remarks of some of the media.
Give some of them the TREATMENT and I bet they would not last 72 hours and none of it would be physical.

The media were like a school of sharks having a feeding frenzy.

Lets face it the PR was crap from start to finish and I find it rather sordid in the extreme to even think that serving members of the armed forces could even consider selling their story to the press.

Yon Killick Wrens done it and had the affont to say she was donating a percentage to HMS Cornwall! She should have given all the money to summut like the BL or the RNBF.

It was a bloody big cockup from start to finish and makes our Navy and Marines look like a right load of pratts as far as I am concerned.

I as a Former Bootneck feel ashamed at all the hype given to this fiasco created mainly because of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing in regard to public oppion.

The fools who suggested that it would be a good PR move for the captured Matelots and Bootnecks to sell their stories to the media should be brought to account and binned regardless of whether they are Civil Servants or Serving members of the Armed Forces.

As to how it kicked off........We can't blame the blokes or the Killick Wren for what happened, they were following the orders given to them by thier officers. We should look long and hard at the actions of the said Officers both at the pointed end and onboard the Cornwall. They got it wrong and made our Country look rather toothless and sad as far as I am concerned.

Why was the Lynx not there to aid them? Why didn't the Cornwall warn them of the appoach of the Iranian Vessels? Thats what Radar is for, for fecks sake!

I reckon it was just basic complacency myself. As in it was a routine patrol done hundreds of times before and it was taken for granted that nought would happen. Got that fecking wrong didn't they then!

All in all a sad day for a once great service as far as I'm concerned.

Have you ever considered a career in the Diplomatic Service, JR? :-?
No, neither have I 8)
Full steam ahead, Surface Contacts, range... bearing... engage with 4.5 inch quick-firing gun and Shoot. Stand by Harpoon, 20mm guns engage and Lynx to engage with TOW. Fire Harpoons. Take them out of the water.

And furck the political consequences. Old stylee RN Captains would not have needed sanction from Bliar etc This is the Royal Navy, after all.
Cheers Jack
