Jammer, Hope my jibe, ref Dick Van Dyke, did'nt dig too deep,.
Its just that, the afore mentioned thespian did such a bad job of the Cockney accent, that he has been held as an example to everyone how NOT to speak English.
By the way, take no notice of Pilgrim, Bowlers are no longer manditory. but a Trilby always looks good. :D

Thanks for the encouragement guys, and trust me-although I'm picking up the slang terms I won't make an attempt to fake the accent, that's just silly.I just went to the airport yesterday and picked up the woman, along with some friends and family members she brought with her(the wedding is day after tomorrow)and we're getting along fabulously.I have always gotten Brit humour-love the British comedies on the telly here.
They all think I have a great sense of humour and we've been pissed most of two days now :drinking: :drinking: -even her 60 year old Mum!I think I will be fine and I'm really looking forward to moving, all except the weather, apparently England isn't warm and sunny nearly as often as Texas is :-? I wouldn't mind a bowler hat but she is against it-says it would just look silly on me  -oh well she's probably right.

Best of luck for the future Gearjammer. Reference the weather. The Romans believed that the ancient Britons had spotted bellies like frogs, as it was always so wet.

Aye - Andy.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes-I haven't posted in a while as I have been busy getting married and moving and all.I have been in England for a week now.The wedding went well and thankfully our families got on well also.I am enjoying England so far(first time here)apart from the weather.I am living in Camberley so if any of you are neighbors feel free to drop me a line.Living around army people is making me miss my days in the army but oh well-I had my fun,now I'm married  I will keep posting here but perhaps less frequently as I now have responsibilities :( and will have to find a job as soon as possible.

Hi Chris,

I'm just the other end of the A30 from Camberley .. in Staines, (Asshole of the Western Hemisphere) our local Council has just wasted the Poll Tax payers money on a silver metal sculpture of a Swan (I reckon it looks like two hands holding scimitars & that we are to be "twinned" with that other Asshole of a place ..Baghdad) !

Fair point,Mike,

For a Town whose only claim to fame,is its connection with Ali G ... I wouldn't be surprised to see the High Street re named "Hezbollah Parade" !

Gearjammer - :D

Glad to see you back in the forum.......

Also that you both made it over ok -
Or did you leave her in the shopping mall with your plastic card ?

Camberly is not 'Up North' - I thought that you were going to have to learn
a new language .... I shall have to read the previous threads again -

Aluminium swans are one thing - try Gatehead's ' Angel ' mate....
Still - it looked canny in a Newcastle strip....
These 'works of art' are all well and good - if they're donated...

The 'up north' reference was to one of my missus' best friends, whom I can now understand quite well.I am still surprised at how many accents can be crammed into one small country!I am beginning to be able to pick them out though.
I am getting on really well but our internet service is crap, and I have not spent a lot of time online since I've been here.I am going to try to make regular visits here again to keep up on the war chat.I kinda wish I was there,I know it sounds a bit nutty but I do.

Welcome back Jammer, hope all is well. Rob Parry (new pseudonym, due to pressure from the lower strata who were getting uppity, but my fascist feminine side has got them cowering!) 8)

What you need to remember is the UK is divided into two distinct parts.

We have the South of England, the wholesome part filled with the creme of society, then we have the North.

Anything North of London is commonly known as the wastelands
