Ria,
I lurk between MF and MF&T.
I have been watching with interest and I do not get involved unless people get out of hand.
Desert slingbacks with DPM stockings and a garter-belt anyone? :P

Well,

Just a thought :D

Any suggestions as to what to use to make up this weight please.

Anyone ???

Shall I put smaller, heavier objects in, like bricks or weights?
Or is it better/more comfortable to pack the bergen to capacity?

Can you wear hiking boots? Do they specifically have to be military ones?

I've emailed info@paras10.com a few days ago with some questions,
but no reply yet.

Already packed full make-up bag in my bergen mate,
(although I look fabulous without slap.........on a dark night.........)
along with hair products, hair straighteners, & fluffy pink
slippers in case my boots chafe.
Oh & one of those nail repair kit thingies, as there's no
way I'm finishing the race if I break a nail.

The email for race enquiries is enquiries@sportsystems.net.

It's 10 weeks this weekend before the Paras 10.
There's a 10 week training plan on www.paras10.com.

Advice from the organiser......don't go mad training with
a heavy bergen, ie. too much too soon.
Hiking boots ok, provided they have full ankle support.

Ok before this becomes another slagging match, we seem to have all the info, so lets leave it be now until those of you who are going for it can post some gen tips on training and/or results from those of you that do it

Good luck to all

I'm thinking of doing some fell races in prep for this.
Check out www.fellrunner.org.uk

There are loads of races - some on weekday evenings too.

At the risk of getting a slow time, think I'll do them with bergen
& boots.
Might get some funny looks, but nothing new there.....

I was complaining to my brother that I wasn't sure my bergen would be ok for this race, as it doesn't have any lumbar support, & is giving me a bad back.
My little nephew was listening intently, ( he's five ) & asked what a bergen was. I explained it was a rucksack, & that mine was no good.
He disappeared off into his bedroom, & emerged a few minutes later with his Action Man rucksack......"There you are Aunty Ria," he said. " You can borrow mine." :D

Can you imagine the response from the race organiser if I handed in an Action Man rucksack for weighing..... :-?
I'm seriously considering it just to see the look on their face.

Don't tell me what to do.
I've had more than enough of that on another thread.
But thanks for wishing me luck.

At Catterick Para Joes don't have lumbar supports/waist belts, they're all cut off the Bergens.
