By fiddle i mean wiggling your fingers. You see when you climb the ropes you form up behind each one. I remember their being three sets of four ropes, maybe more.

Anyhow the troop is split between the ropes and you stand in ranks facing the rope. The person at the front (the climber) looks up the rope and grips the rope with both hands as high as he can. With one hand over the other, once you have that grip you must stay perfectly still until you are given the command to "CLIMB" at which point you go like f**k untill you reach the top.

Once at the top you stretch your body out from the top of the rope down, do some fancy shit at the top. I will leave that as a surprise.

The come back down under control.

The guys at the bottom stand to attention when you are griping the rope and jump to at ease when climbing.

If someone is out of time or something the PTIs do not like it. There was one guy in my troop who could not jump to attention or ease when told to. At first we all got beasted for it but after a bit just him on his own doing a s**t load of tuck jumps.

Not so much, he would of if he had been their until the later stages though.

He went at week 4 the earliest you could opt-out, at this stage our troop was still very polite with each other so didn't "ave a go" or anything like that. We just sort of grumbled about it between ourselves.

By the end of week 5 though if you had a problem with someone or one person was not pulling their weight they got told. We used to have troop meetings on the stairs of our grots. Issues would then be raised and I think we ironed most of them out quite quick.

The thing which pissed me off was people being late or rather not 5 mins early. For example getting back from pt and into rig, you have an extremely short amount of time to shower and get sorted. literally like this.

sprint to grot --------> get naked ------------> through pt rig into wash bucket -----------> leg it through showers -----------> towel off VERY FAST----------------> get into rig while still a bit damp----------->get outside.

You had maybe 2 mins to get that sorted, and people used to talk or sit on their beds, in the end they got a kick up the ass (but in a friendly way).

Wait untill your on exercise get woken at 1:00 am by rifle fire and have to get your whole section packed up and in alt firing postion within 5 mins and that is slow. You find out is is squared away then.

Sorry if I babble on.

Babble on as much as you want mate its good stuff :D . Anyway i was wondering i know that it must get anoying when you guys get beasted because one of the lads in the troop keeps doing something wrong but what if you can all see he is realy trying his hardest (though he keeps cocking up), surely you couldn't jip him for that, was only wondering though :D . Also how many Lads are in a troop?

Hi Jacko,

Really sorry to hear about your MD and i hope you do get back into RT soon. I'm will soon be starting RT myself and i was wondering when you start training do you have to do gym test 1 again and if so, do you have to beat your scores from your PRMC?. It's just i haven't been able to train properly and i was fitter on my PRMC so i'm a bit nervous about starting recruit training in worse condition.

Thanks.

If he is trying his hardest and not attaining results after 4 weeks he shouldn't really be there. Its basic stuff like "standstill" which people should be able to do before they go to RT.

We didn't give anybody jib for not doing something or not achieving, it was when they continued to let the whole troop down repeatedly with the same mistake.

Gymtest1 is done again when you get there and at week nine, they use this as a measuring instrument to see how you fitness is going. I have not heard you have to beat your scores but I would aim to at least match them.

I suppose you'd have to be cock to get on at someone for something they can't help. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses (obviously)

Agreed. Things like not standing still and shit like that is fair enough but week 4 is still mega early to be having a pop at someone for admin, it does happen mind.

Whats the swimming like? I can swim well with breast-stroke but I am terrible and front crawl. No matter how many times I tried to do it I can't get from one side of the swimming pool to the other.
How long (time wise) do you swim for?
What strokes do you do?
How often do you swim a week?
