Took me longer to make my ghillie suit than i lasted on the course  .The shooting is the easy bit great respect for snipers but
they are a bit nerdy .
Maybe an overhill stab but not ready to hang
my kit in yet .If not quite death from the flanks
certainly a nasty fright.:)

Snipers Nerdy?? No way every sniper i met in training were like ML's the meanest of the lot. My troop Sgt was a sniper and he was literally a machine.

I remember on our first yomp back from Marshall Star, 2 of our Cpls sent Rcts looking for big rocks to put in the Sgts Bergen while he dished out pain to the flankers. We brought back 5 juicy 1s and all of them went in. He knew it was heavy as soon as he picked it up but only thought there was 2 so took them out. That Sgt still set the pace for the yomp back and it was very very quick indeed. Most lads had to run to keep up.

Just sit back in yer chair and I'll plug yer in! Hard a nails? Nar just good at fieldcraft and stuff like it really.

As it was I used to stick me finger up in the air and work on the SWAG principle when it came to stuff like judging distances. Elevation, wind n stuff.

SWAG=Scientific Wild Arsed Guess. Taught to me by a bloke called Jonny Mathieson a legend in the Sniper community of the Corp when I was in.

We used to use the good owd L42, a bolt action rifle which was really a Lee Enfield made to look modern. 7.62 mm for those of you who cream your knicks over stuff like that. Ok?

Anyone know the five S's?

Shit, Shave, Shower, Shampoo and A-Shore!!!! :D

Ok the four S's.

Thats awesome, the problem of age ey! :-? (No offence)

Not sucking up here, but place like this could be a s!ite side worse without you. Good to have someone whos been there and done it, and wont hold back any punches when it comes to just laying it out as it is.

I once fired from 1500 yards using just the iron sight (my number two bet me that I would miss) and hit a fig 12 target at Tregantle ranges in Cornwall five times out of five. My grouping was a two inch group just to the left of the chest. So you can imagine what they were like when fitted with a scope..............So accurate it made you feel you could hit ought (and we fecking well did an all!). Oh happy days! :D

What rifle were you using Artist at 1500 yards?Bcause i didn't think the SA80 had that range.

You can hit targets out too 600m with it on a good day.In fact that its section range.Though as an indviduial 400m is more realistic.

Agree a section putting down rounds out to 600m would make me keep me head down, but you're not gonna hit a bloke at that range unless he's standing still as a statue and there's not a breath of wind. 400m individual is just about the limit for 'sniping' shots with plenty of time or range shooting, and if you go to a combat situation or CQB lane you're probably talking only 200m individual effective range tops.
