seeing as it has popped up. Can anybody tell me the differences between the operational deployments of the 3 different commando's i.e. do they specialise in certain terrains although all 3 can deploy anywhere if needed? Or is it really just a case of 'my dad was in 45CMDO so i'll go in it' or 'i like the number 40' ? taaa for the replies, Andy

You never stay in the same Unit your entire career. Royal unlike the Army does what is called Trickle drafting. This means that blokes are always leaving and joining different units.

The plus to it is that when you join a new unit it's a good bet that you will know a fair few of the blokes there already. And lets face it everone in every unit did his training at CTC so everyone knows that he can depend on the bloke next to him. It's whats drilled into your head from day one.

As to each unit doing it's own special thing. Naw. Not really.

My first draft was 40 then Hq&Sigs, then 42 then a ship and so on. Variety is the spice of life and thats what you get in the Corp. And long may it stay so. Three years was the normal time in a unit before your next draft when I was in.

To be honest I'm not quite sure who passed and failed, it was all a bit rushed when we got back, several lads got called in to see the boss but I think only 6 failed...I'd guess at least a couple of them were ex-881. Find out when we get back. It was a pretty good ex, I enjoyed it all except killer yomp (obviously), unfortunately a few of the lads started wrapping their tits on the basics during the last couple of days when they were a bit cold and tired Which soured the end of the ex, the training team had been happy up to the last 48hrs. Came to a head when a couple of lads (both backtroopers - the most rats nod on camp (sure you know who I mean, gangly fella!) plus another) wrapped on cleaning their kit when we got back - we got in midnight Wed night and had til 0800 to square everything, when it came to going on leave the team found two bergens just dumped in the drying room. Not going to be a nice coupla weeks when we get back

Oh BTW LMDAVIES, did you get put on dirty recruit routine? i think i was talking to you whilst you helped me unpack my bergan, or am i mistaken you for someone else, just he was in hunter at week 31. I was threaders then, put on dirty recruit routine cause someone in my room had a dirty locker so the whole room got it...

Yep 880 had rocky for there arms drill, did a lad who calls himself ringo pass he failed the 30 miler with 880?

It was 880 with the Rocky tune, I watched the Kings Squad it was a hoofin day but I had a tear in my eye in the Falklands Hall watching the 12 Originals and 12 other lads receive their Green Berets.
