Gary i do not know if you are in the forces or not, if you are not in them get it checked out now before you go in. It is better to do this than damage any thing or chucked after a few weeks on medical grounds.

Gary, do not ignore Sneaky's advice though! Go and see a Doc... they do a long time training and all we do is... errm... a quick course in sickbay!

I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding here.
When I started running in August my ankles would always hurt a little bit, not real pain but just muscle ache type of thing from the stress of running because I had never run in my whole life. Each time when they started to hurt I just stopped, and gradually they got better and I was able to run 5 miles with only slight feet/ankle discomfort (but thats normal right?)

Gary most of the replies you are getting are a load of rubbish! you shouldnt feel any discomfort from only 10 mins of running if your reasonably fit! go to the doc's and find out from someone who is qualified to tell you to "run through it" it wont cost you a penny just 1/2 hour of your day! book an appointment.
aye,

Gary, it is not normal for your ankles to hurt, I ran and marched for more miles than I would care to remember, on the odd occasion I had sore muscles which soon went, but joints never if you have a problem in the joints you could do you serious injuries which will affect you in your middle years of life.

I used to run in a pair of reebok classic, untill my ankles gave in. Then I brought a pair of Brooks GTS and havent had too many problems since. Running on a treadmill today and my ankles hurt a bit, but that was because I had my shoes tied to tight.

Well I just went to a prof. running shop and they filmed my feet while I was on the treadmil, my ankles kinda bend out everytime my foot hits the ground because . I got 100 quid trainers with ankle support and stuff, they filmed me with them on and my running was perfect, going to test run them tonight
He asked If I was having 'ankle pains'. Lol, that was that then.

yeah good point, but army boots are quite high and I will be wearing insoles aswell, so shouldnt be much of a problem.
There are also things called ankle straps or something, I read something about them in a different thread.

I always seem to get this after I’ve not been running for a while (had flu in October). After about three sessions of 4 miles of easy to medium pace running it seems to disappear.
I also find that running on a soft surface helps as well.
