I'm sure I read/saw somewhere in the last couple of days that pistols are now general issue for anyone going out on the ground. Certainly all our lads carry them as a secondary weapon.

As commented below army use side arms for none infantry troops who are on the front line. in case of an emergancy there quick to hand with a pistol and are easy to handle and aslo to store. :)

lsw got biffed to new lad on section in my time. i never saw what the problem was, i thought it was an accurate weapon.
