Hey sir/mam
in regards to not be able to join until you have lived in UK for three years due to residency in the USA whilst people from Canada, New Zealand South Afrca etc can enlist straight away. This is because the countries listed and many more still fall under the Commonwealth which means the Queen is still our sovereign and therefore we still serve her even though we live in other countries. Hope this has shed some light on your Question.

Good Luck

From the website (apologies if I misquote, it was a couple of weeks I looked it up) - for officer entry you must have resided in the UK for last x years (3 or 5), for recruit entry you must have dual nationality. Whether that's the long and the short of it is another matter. A friend of a friend is chasing the same problem, he's lived in the UAE for the last seven years and has dual nationality. I'll let you know if I hear of any developments.

Thanks for the help lads. I talked to an online army recruiter and was told that since i'm british I don't have a problem. I know the army isn't the Marines but it's some information that can atleast put my mind at rest a little, and i'm sure they operate along simlar guidlines in these circumstances. Atleast I can try for the Paras if the Marines are not an option when I get back. Right now i've got to deal with some injury set backs. I fractured my knee last novemer, and as a result of walking around with a limp for 6 months, I ruptured a disc in my back this past may. But 6 months of rehab later and i'm doing much better so another year and I should be tip top. Once again thanks for the help and i'll see you out there.

Update: dual nationality is sufficient for Corps regardless, only requires residency in UK if you're joining as officer. Confirmed by some AFCO or another (think it was Brighton he spoke to).
