Not a chance.

I overheard a guy handing out expert advice to his rookie friend in the locker room last week.

"Don't be drinking to many of the those protein shakes man, you'll get immune to them."

That ones so bad, it isn't even funny.

I cant be the only one that gets slightly annoyed at things like that. But i have to laugh it off, can't think of any other way to do that.

To top this all off. There was this bloke who came in the gym one time. He approaches the owner (whos a bodybuilder) and says "oi mate, i cant get bigger. I've been eating loads and loads of chicken crisps for my carbo and protien and i just cant get bigger, im getting what i need but i cant get bigger"

........................................................

CRISPS!!.....................CRISPS!!!!! What the flying crap is THAT?!

I couldn't believe what i heard and walked to the other end of the gym to p*ss myself laughing with my mate. I still get over it now.....CRISPS!!

Dear God....i feel for that bloke, i really do.

I think if i went up to him and said "ere mate, its all about eating Mud. Mud's the way forward mate, full of nutrients and vitamins. Its wicked mate." He probably would have believed it.

I have to laugh about it though, it's quite funny to hear some of that stuff. :P

 I assure you I haven't, and wouldn't use them out side of medical reason’s, I just like to think knowledge is the bomb 8) ... shame my knowledge is very limited :( :P

As for chicken crisps! I'd like to know how his mind works... guess he just thought, potatoes and chicken in a bag! (or didn't think as the case may be)

I think 'special' is the word that best describes them lol. Fair enough about the roids mate, its a hard decision for any weightlifter.

I'm not strongly against the use of Steroids per say, I’m a strong believer in personally choice and if and when someone is of the age, ability and maturity to start considering the use of Performance enhancing substances then I guess it's there body.

I'm strongly against the use of drugs in sports, although bodybuilding is slightly different as there are natural and un-tested competitions, there is also no risk of harming other people in bodybuilding, only you're own body will be affected, and if everyone else on that stage is also on them then I guess its a level playing field (although still very sketchy as to where to draw the line).

I wouldn't use them even if I wasn't going to join for the simple reason, I value being fit and healthy over 'looking good'. I also wouldn't get as much personal gain from my training knowing the drugs played a big role in my gains... Hard work, commitment , blood sweat and tears are my Steroids :P

Anyone joining up or competing in contact sports especially the likes of Boxing, Rugby and MMA should never go near these substances for performance enhancing reasons.

A. there's no reason to.
B. It can be very dangerous (even more so) for the other competitor
C. the other fighter would be at a disadvantage.

Just my opinion. Can't hurt knowing about them etc if only to help others if the need arises.

Anyways enough on steroids etc, back to the original question if there is anymore to say ... serious thread hi-jack going on here

As I said earlier A proper and successful PCT will bring the body back to it's natural state, meaning you will make the same gains as you would having not taking steroids + any gains kept from the use of gear... all this is certainly not to be messed with and can have bad side affect if not done correctly and successfully, even then there can be bad problems though.

But I really will stop there, no more comments from me :P

Correct. You look at some blokes when they're on gear. They fill out. Once they stop, its like a slow deflating balloon for the simple reason which is they cant maintain what they once did/had.

Firstly Stokey, brownie points for you matey! I'm honestly impressed with your knowledge, especially at your age!

As for the question of under 16s lifting weights, then yes it is safe. However it is important to remeber that children and adolecents are not mini adults and so cannot and should not be trained in the same way. Likewise supervision is paramount, as is proper coaching of the lifts.

Just going back to somthing that was said regarding the steroid discussion at the moment, the notion of steroids upsetting a level playing field. Baring in mind that steroids are simply a man made version of testosterone, meaning that someone on a cycle will test higher for testosterone levels, consider the fact that to a normal test result is considered to be around 200-900ng/dl. Natural Testosterone results have sometimes even read at over 1250ng/dl. That is a huge gap. In reality athlete A could have a testosterone reading of 700ng/dl, and athlete B could have a test reading of 350ng/dl. Both are within normal (and legal) parameters, although athlete A has twice the amount of testosterone than althelte B. In my books that doesn't seem to be a level playing field.

Would (or even, should) athlete B beable to take exogenous Testosterone to make this aspect even? Leaves you thinking doesn't it.

I don't think you could ever create a level playing field no matter how hard you tried, genetics can and do play a huge role in a sports persons ability, the fact is I could train like Mike Tyson, eat the same and sleep the same etc (if I had that information) would it make me as good of a fighter as he was in his prime... most probably not. Because genetically he was superior to most.

Drugs could technically level out the chemical side of things... but leveling all sports peoples test levels isn't going to make everyone the same physique, height or have the same natural ability.

There would always be the argument, if he can use it why can't I... the person with higher test levels would want to chemically improve him self as well, thus once again giving him a unfair advantage.

I personally think the natural advantages some people posses is what makes sport great... who wants to watch a sport of any kind where the two people are exactly equal in all ways, endless draws and stalemates.(technically imposable I know, but in hindsight)

As you said Spence... makes you think. The vast majority of sports people want to be great... but how far are people willing to go... and what’s morally right is a question far to complex for me to even entertain the thought of answering.

Would you have a third leg implant to give you that edge on the running track :-? :P

:-? Ok this one has got me confused, are you suggesting we should take Anabolic Steroids before we think to express our views/ opinions on the matter?

Sorry if I’m being dense here :P

Stokey, I thought the same thing. If we're right, then that's a ridiculous statement!
Talking of advantages over other sportsman - England vs South Africa in the RWC - did you see the speed of Habana, especially on the high balls?! I almost couldn't believe how fast he was moving down the field! Very exciting player. Now compare Sackey!

I know what you're saying but my answer to that would be thats being genetically superiour. Thats all fair, no one should be held back because of that because it is simply out of everyones control.

Im simply mirroring Ssss*whistle*stokey's comments. He used Mike Tyson as an example, i will use Jona Lomu.

He has been plagued by Kidney problems all his life, throughout his rugby career. However, this man still managed to play in the Kiwi's international side at 19 years old. His fastest 100m was 10.8 seconds. Thats f*cking mega for a bloke whos 6ft 5 and weighs a shadow under 20stone of muscle. If you watch him play, any of his games, how impressive is he? I dont think i even have to say. For him to be able to move and run as fast as he did with his weight and height is very impressive. Has anyone ever played 7s Rugby? If theres any other rugby players on here im sure they know what im talking about, i've played it. Its fast and you've got to be fit to keep up. Lona Lomu played sevens and hes the size of a Prop. Was he even playing at 100% of his ability? No. 80% at the most according to him. This is because of his kidney problems.

Now how can someone do that? His mental fortitude is a big aspect in all of this because he has always tried his best with what he had. But when you look at his physical stats and performance, it really does rock your brain when you think of how he can do things like that, and its barely being matched even today. Jona Lomu was built for rugby. Its like God's gift to him. His genetics have allowed him to surpass big gaps in my view. So in saying that someone should be able to take 'performance enhancers' to get on an even balance or just to get close to that still isn't fair.
