There's a para forum here? What they want that for? Can they use computers? I thought they were just the dumb guys that went up in planes and jumped out!AJtothemax wrote:Tell ya what, lets do this in the para forums ey? All the arguements are always in here.
Better yet, stop arguing, or 'debating' this. We all know its going no where.
Yea you are right AJ, we all knew this was a bite and some how have all ended up biting
Can a moderator now lock the thread as it is not and never was going anywhere or being productive in anyway!!
Cheers
James

James, you missed the next line about the weight. Draw your own conclusions as to my point. That's as far as I'll bite, except to say that lads who haven't even passed PRMC should probably shut the f@#k up if they fancy slagging maroon.

As Sandy pointed out, 20 mile time is wrong. Redid the maths because I was curious.
Para 10 miler = 110 minutes = 11 minute miles
Para 20 miler = 270 minutes = 13.5 minute miles
= 23% increase each extra 10 miles.
23% of 13.5 = 3.06 + 13.5 = 16.56 x 30 miles = 497 ...
= 8 hrs 18 minutes for 30 miles
So, actually, the extrapolated Para time would be almost as fast, with 13lbs more weight (if the RM 22lbs is correct, any verification?). On the other hand, P-Company doesn't have a 30-miler, so this is just theory. Still, some of the younger lot here might want to consider that before they habitually jump on the Paras as some inferior species.

Rivalry
The rivalry is always amusing.
The paras do 16 weeks basic plus their parachute training and Royal does 30 weeks basic including his commando training.
The Royal Marines guard all the Oil Rig platform installations, guard NATO Security, have a presence at Embasseys around the world, guard the queen, provide NATO and Whitehall security, guard NATO's Northern Flank etc etc.
That said: The rivalry is important. It shows unit pride. They're both tough and elite soldiers that stand out from the crowd.
If you check the history books you will find that the marines and paras have often fought side by side in major conflicts and I feel that's an important and relevant point to make here.
Obviously I believe bootnecks to be better soldiers, but that's my opinion and we're all entitled to one.
Regards
Steve

I don't give a toss about comparisons, but I will correct the habitual wrong information about the Paras which some people on this site give.

Kings Squad
Yes it is 32 weeks including the Kings Squad.
However, the Paras seem to have increased their length of training over the years if its now 28 weeks, plus para training.
When did you pass out?
