How could you live with yourself as a parent though letting your kid eat so much food that they weigh almost as much as 2 fully grown men at age seven!
I agree that if you wanna be fat then that's fair enough but this takes it to the extreme! It's cruel!

Im not suggesting we round up everyone thats slightly overweight and throw them in gulags.

When it gets to the stage where someone is housebound because they cant walk due to there weight then cleary they have as many mental as physical problems.

The government helps junkies and alcoholics with state sponsored programmes why not the Morbidly obese ?

Ok thats fine I think that is a good idea(I thought they did have programmes though) I just disagreed with you being told what you can and cant buy and things like that because lets face it the world is made up of all sorts and sometimes shit happens and if someone wants to eat themselves to death then fine. Dont misconstrue this as we should just let crap happen i mean have the programmes and what not just dont force feed(no pun intended!) a law onto someone.

I agree Chris. Of course there should be help and things to help people who want help, like they do alcoholics and smack heads. But to say you shouldn't be allowed to eat what you want or have to ration your fat is ridiculous. If you want to eat cheese burgers and chips for every meal of the day you should be allowed. People should be allowed to do what they want to themselves.

Ok Ive read every post which took enough time and noticed not one person mentioned this so I thought it might be relevant.

COST

Who has to suffer the burden of taxes because of the required care for these people. I'll tell you, people like me, people like you.

I will be honest and say, medical conditions such as that lass who puts on weight even eating just salads, are exempt from my ranting, but the people who have hungry eyes, are offered no sympathy from me.

I myself was heading down the larger side of life, at age 11 I weighed 13 stone, dont ask how... my diet was shite, basically. But I turned myself around on my own. Now I understand that some of these people may not be able to do it alone but still, they should be been picked up on the radar a LONG time before they reached the stage they did.

One thing that does piss me off though, is some kid across the road from me, his mum is hungry eyed and she's on the larger side of life, claiming disability because of her weight, that is one thing that pisses me right off knowing I will be having to pay taxes for her in less than 6 months and knowing that my dad has been paying taxes for her.

Ok basically, its late and I cant be assed to argue anymore, for those who cant be bothered to read the long post, short version is...

I dislike people who put themselves in the position and then moan and whine

whoa hold on fellas, I just ment my mate and I were talking sh*t. I never ment it as 'This is a great idea! why dont we all do it' kind of thing. I mean sh*t if people wanna eat deep fried mars bars then thats their bloody problem, but when people start giving it to their kids its a freaking form of abuse.

So yea to set the record straight I never ment what I said to come across as a serious point.

If I was to give a serious opinion then it would be something a long the lines of introducing more exercise at schools, and not selling sh*t food at said schools.

My tuppence on this:

If your a fat kid, its the parents fault simple as. Parents should be educated, and if they fail to take action then they should get f**ked by the social.

I think part of the problem is expense of out-of-school sports clubs. When I was a kid, I was doing martial arts twice a week for £1 per class. These days it seems to be no less than a fiver for a session. I'm not saying thats across the board, but it does seem like these classes are more interested in coining it in than actually providing a favour to society.

I totally agree that its your own choice if you want to be a fat cnut. But I also think something has to be done when healthcare costs start spiralling to treat these people when if they got of their lazy arses and did something about it then there wouldn't be so much of a problem. What we can do about it, I don't even pretend to know.

As a nation, we are populated by lazy b*st*rds who cant be arsed getting a job, never mind going for a run.

About the cost of healthcare, and I knew someone was going to bring this up, I say you'd then have to ban smoking, aswell as dangerous sports, after all, someone who goes rock climbing is putting themselves in danger, if they get hurt it's their fault. People who get drunk often hurt themselves and cost the NHS money. Alcohol alone costs the NHS so much.

Couldnt agree more, the only thing I would say is that the government rakes in so much tax from selling bifters that it kind of puts something back into the coffers. I dont reckon they make so much tax from selling wotsits to fat cnuts.
Its a vicious circle, one which I havent a clue what we can do about without turning into a bunch of frigging communists.

lodgi, you bring up a valid point that i neglected to think about. very much valid though. I agree to a point about the rockclimbing etc, but isnt there usually insurance to cover such activities?

Alcohol on the other hand, pure dumbasses to be honest if they get that shitfaced that they then hurt themselves, call me hypocritical but I thought I broke my hand once from an alcohol related incident, I lost my temper when some beast of a woman slapped me for no reason, I i took my anger out on a wall, but I didnt clog up the hospitals with it, I went home, put it on ice and got my uncle to look at it the next day (luckily hes a trained medic) but the point is, I dont feel alcohol related injuries really deserve treatment unless they are private health care covered.

Anyways, as usual I've gotta run out so I'll catch up to this thread later, ciao.

Say for instance you didn't break your hand, say you accidently fell off a wall acting about when you were p*ssed and you broke your back. It would cost probably £20,000 to put you right if it was serious, do you think you should have to fork out that for your self?

Maybe you do, but I don't.

Yeah maybe some rockclimbers have insurance, but theres other dangerous sports and activities where they don't. Should they not help peole who catch clap or ghonnarea for free because they didn't wear a johnny? Should they not give free healthcare to those people that try to commit suicide? And if you say thats because they have mental problems id argue you could say the same about the morbidly obese.

I broke my leg quite badly when I was younger, snapped the femur clean through and was in hospital 11 weeks. I was climbing a tree acting about and I fell out. It will have cost thousands in total to sort me out. Doctors, Consultants, Ambulance, Nurses, X Ray people (dunno their name), pharmacists etc. Should my mum and dad have footed the bill because it was my fault and I shouldn't have been up a tree? Or if I had been an adult should I have paid?

Some people are always going to use up more public resources than others, thats just the way it is.

Ah but falling over and breaking a bone, whether you are pished or not, is an accident. Gorging on food until you are a teenage fat cnut is no accident - its gluttony.

I agree with you Lodgi, I'm just playing Devils Advocate. I think its an interesting debate and its interesting to hear everyones thoughts on it.

I think the general tolerance of society is going down thats why we see more of these views cropping up. People are now out for themselves in alot of cases. But remember are we not meant to be living in a democracy so yes its a pain when your tax may go towards someone drunken/fat/accidental incident but that's the price we pay for wanting a "free" society(which more and more I feel we are losing). Now yes obese people in some circumstances its all there own fault for being that way and I dont like it but what do people suggest to stop this(if we should at all) as your never going to weed out all the wrong doings of people. I dont have the answers but I do think no amount of government policy or legislation will stop this from happening, people have to want to change and a degree of compassion is needed.

Just one on this, there was an article somewhere or other not so long ago that pointed out that the revenue raised by the government on taxing alcohol and cigarettes was several times the amount spent by the NHS on fixing problems directly related to tobacco and booze.
