You know what I said about newspapers - also bear in mind some of these stories are generated as feelers to gauge reaction. Whoever thought that story might be of use might be a right nobberRompton wrote:I spoke to a recruiter today and he said this is all balls**t. they were only thinking of doing it. Well he's hardly gonna say it's true and potentially put off any prospective recruits now is he?? If the MoD don't comment on it i'm pretty sure that a recruiting sergeant isn't going to know the scoreRompton wrote:I spoke to a recruiter today and he said this is all balls**t. they were only thinking of doing it. yeah i think untill its written on the mod website or stone then i'll take everything my recruiter says with a pinch of salt
"Many are called but few are chosen, keep your webbing tight, your weapon clean and work hard. When times are tough be proud of who you are, trust in those above you and stay loyal to those around you"
Why not do "Synthetic Training". We all did it before a drop and when we were being trained. It would cost nothing, it would keep the PJI's in a job and I'm sure when it came to the crunch, the lads would "GO".
When you are all worked up after training, I'm sure there wouldn't be any refusals, they wouldn't get the chance they'ed be carried out the door with the rest.

Bear in mind these plans are just one in a list of many cost cutting ideas the government has, so rather than being an absolute definite, they're all just possibilities at the moment. Other plans include the scrapping of some tanks for example.

I think the article in the Sunday Telegraph that Steve posted on the military forums website says it all:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jh ... army14.xml
As training does now appear to have been cancelled, what is going to happen to the parachute regiment?

Nothing is happening to Para Regt. just means blokes will get their wings when the opportunity arises.

On sussessful compleletion of cic (PARA) you will be posted to one of the Parachute regiment battalions, at the earliest opportunity you will be sent away to attend your first course as a trained soldier, the basic parachute course at RAF Brize Norton, on completion of this course( which takes 3-4 weeks)you will receive your wings and become a fully qualified parachutist and Para Pay

Yeah, i just got a phone call from the recruitment team in Colly and he said the same thing. He said that maybe the jump course was binned last week but its not unusual for it to happen when it comes to operational requirements. I think after speaking to him (and a red devil at the BPA's AGM on Saturday) i have a different view than i had previously.Nothing is happening to Para Regt. just means blokes will get their wings when the opportunity arises.
I'm still waiting for all my med docs to come back from my old unit unit though. One good thing though, the guy at Colly is going to try and find out why it's taken so long and try to speed things up a bit
I'm happy again now
