Whenever I watch the DVD I find myself going back in time. I know Mike Eccles from way back, ditto Dave Ashby. Dave crossed the bar a few years ago as well. In them days Taches ruled thats for sure when it came to training teams.
"It pays to be a winner sir, back you go" no shouting, no mindless beasting but by heck the looks on them poor lads faces as they spent the entire morning running backwards and forwards from point A to point B with Dave repeating the same phrase over and over again.
Top programme L'Artiste - that and Behind the Lines about the Cadre got me interested in the Corps.
You might remember Lt Ainsworth from it - he was the injured one and a bit of a star. He commanded a troop a few weeks ahead of us at CTC and one of his charges (aged 17) drank himself to death on the Kings Squad piss up. Lt Ainsworth took the wrap for it and was kicked out so he only did a few years - shame though, he was well spoken of.
Yes the young man took the wrap.
He displayed true grit, Cdo. spirit
and determination passing the Ccse
and completing the 30 miler with a
bust ankle. I never knew him but from
what I have ascertained he was a good
man. Pity ! I wonder what became of him ?
My only encounter was a (sort of) bollocking for having a loose neck drawstring on my wooly pully. He just politely pointed out that that area of my attire might want some attention and I felt genuinely bad about it Lads from his troop said that he didn't tend to lose his rag but people did what he said - a type of leadership that can't be taught. I obviously feel for the family of Rct Mallard but I don't think Lt Ainsworth leaving helped at all. No idea what he's up to now, hope things turned out ok for him.
Heres a quick Heads Up on the DVD situation. I should have the first 12 copies come Wednesday next week. So watch and shoot for when they are ready for posting. First come, first served. After that depending on how many people ask for copies there will be further copies as and when me Oppo can run them off at his work.
May I suggest that you each give a small donation of say a fiver to the RMA (Royal Marines Association) so blokes who are going though a bad time in Civvy Street can be helped by their former Brothers in Arms.

None what so ever as I ain't got a bloody clue as to how to do it!
And before anyone offers, I don't want any advice on how to do it either chaps!
As it is it only costs the same as a letter to send one or two DVD's by first class post or second class post. So regardless of peoples locations that's how it's going to be done people.
Anyway I'm OWD! And really can't be arsed messing around trying to do all this putor stuff. Ok?
I already PM'd you Artist earlier in the day but just in case you want a list here I'll be down for a copy if thats ok? Also If its alright with you I'll whack it on a filesharing site depending on how large a file it is.
I'd like to have a skeg but I'm not fussed about keeping one and would be happy to pass it on - still think a donation is in order though. Perhaps some of you lads could take one, copy it, make a donation and pass it on?
I wouldn't like to see it on ebay or a torrent site though. Artist has put some effort into this and all he wants is a small donation to the RMA.
