My point was there is no definate number of years you need to serve before going for it. If you are an excellent soldier and a mature bloke who is fit and keen then there is no reason why you shouldnt go for it if youve been in under 2 years.

Good point.

In the book "First in to action" the author went from RM virtually straight into SBS selection.... I guess anything can happen to the right sort of person and they always need them

Say someone just joined a Battalion. They are in their early 20s, joined after several years in the TA and did well at CIC and in Bn training. Would they be likely to be allowed to try for PF within their first year?

Doubt it you would hardly be known to the battalion and others who had been in longer would want their shot at it .Even if you pass the course with
flying colours may not get a place as its a very small unit.Good luck if thats what you want to do.
Maybe an overhill stab but not ready to hang
my kit in yet .If not quite death from the flanks
certainly a nasty fright.:)

Mfat_man - in that book it was just a test that three got selected for. When someone found out later, I think his OC, he was made to do six months with RM for the experience I think. Sorry, I'm sure you know this anyway, for others who haven't read it just as much.
How can I remember details like that after a few years but geology revision leaves my head in a day?!
